We are pleased to share that our Isle Global independent panel, along with Michael Hector, PhD from TIPS (NPC), recently had the incredible opportunity to visit the Center for Sustainable Environmental Sanitation at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) as part of the Africa-Asia Sanitation Research project. By engaging in research, innovation and capacity building, expert groups in Africa and Asia are contributing to the development of scalable solutions that aim to transform communities and the way in which services are rendered. At Isle, we believe in the power of facilitating innovation to impact for sustainable development. This project is a testament to our commitment to advancing sanitation solutions that are not only innovative but also scalable and sustainable. Supported by Julian Zheng, the panel gained invaluable insights into the NSS technology route to market pathways, the work being undertaken to build a cohort of future experts and leaders in NSS, and technology demonstration, evaluation, and commercialization activities conducted by CSES. A huge thank you to Prof Zifu Li, Prof Heinz-Peter Mang, A/Prof shikun cheng, and the entire CSES and USTB team for their engagement. Chantal R-Kotze Alisha Syal Ashton Busani Mpofu, PhD Meena Y. 🌊 Unlocking the Water Transition: A Call to Action for Innovators and Investors 🌍 Exciting times are upon us as we navigate a transformative era in water management! Our CEO, Benjamin Tam, has just published a compelling article, "Unlocking the Water Transition: The Challenge of Funding New Technology," shedding light on the critical shifts redefining our industry. At Isle Utilities, we're witnessing a pivotal change in how we manage the water cycle, moving from localised to holistic strategies and recognizing water as a valuable, scarce resource. As public awareness grows, innovative technologies like seawater desalination, resource recovery, and low-energy water treatment are essential to a sustainable future. However, a significant challenge remains: funding. Despite the sector's potential, attracting venture capital has been tough. In 2021, water tech startups secured only $470M, a mere 1% of the $57B invested in climate tech. This disparity underscores the urgent need to revalue water and incentivize investment. Ben highlights three key strategies we're implementing at Isle to bridge this gap: 🤝 Connecting Innovators and End Users: Creating forums for collaboration and early market interest. 🧪 Early Stage Trials: Facilitating trials for water utilities to test and validate new technologies. De-risking Trials: Through our "Trial Reservoir," we fund trials, accelerating development and attracting investors. We believe a stronger market signal is vital for encouraging investment in new technology. Adapting corporate venturing models from the energy sector and leveraging funds like the Ofwat innovation fund can significantly impact the water tech landscape, particularly in the UK. The urgency is clear. It’s time to align stakeholders, minimize risks, and build confidence to address global water challenges. Together, we can drive the water transition and secure a sustainable future. 🌿 Read Ben Tam’s full article https://lnkd.in/dMywge2j to explore how we can accelerate the funding and adoption of innovative water technologies. 🚀 #WaterTransition #Innovation #Sustainability #WaterTech #IsleUtilities #Investment #ClimateChange #SustainableFuture Institute of Water
