Undercounted in official statistics, so their needs aren't considered in policy-making. Locked out of statutory homelessness support, with women being stalked, harassed or forced into sex work, not considered vulnerable enough for priority housing. In this must-read piece for #InsideHousing, Lucy Campbell our Head of Multiple Disadvantage, lays out the urgent need for gender-specific services. Women experiencing #homelessness face distinct challenges - domestic abuse, trauma, and violence - yet the Government’s strategy barely acknowledges them. We won’t stand for it. It’s time to stop overlooking and start prioritising. This #InternationalWomensDay, we're calling for real investment in women’s homelessness services. 🔗 Read more via Homeless Link : https://lnkd.in/ehpCMR9N #WomensHomelessness #HiddenHomelessness #SafeSpaces #SupportWomen #EndRoughSleeping #IWD #IWD25
Single Homeless Project
Civic and Social Organizations
London-wide charity founded 50 years ago. We prevent #homelessness and help Londoners transform their lives.
About us
Single Homeless Project began in 1975 when six homeless men in London teamed up to create change. They wanted to see an end to rough sleeping and a city where everyone has a safe place to live and the chance for a fulfilling life. While we have grown beyond recognition since those early days, these origins continue to shape the way we work and our vision of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life. Today, we help 12,000 Londoners in crisis every year leave homelessness behind, be seen and heard, and find a place to call home.

Child loss is a grief like no other. 💔 For many women facing homelessness or domestic abuse, the pain of having a child removed from their care is an all-too-common and devastating reality. Permanent separation from a child can be profoundly traumatic. It doesn’t happen in isolation — it often compounds existing trauma, worsens mental health, and may lead to increased substance use as a way of coping. We must do more. Our specialist women's services offer trauma-informed, compassionate support - helping women process this grief, rebuild their lives, and, where possible, work toward reconnecting with their children. This #MothersDay, we hold space for all the mums we support - whether they are grieving, surviving, or striving for healing. ❤️ #Mum #Mothers #UKMothersDay #MothersDayUK #ChildLoss #Grief #Trauma #MentalHealth

“𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵. 𝗜𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻, 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗜’𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗜’𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.” Yesterday, the government announced sweeping welfare cuts. Projections show that over 3 million households will lose out financially as a result of the changes, with average losses of £1,720 a year compared to inflation. An estimated 250,000 people – including 50,000 children – will be pushed into relative poverty by 2029–30, putting them at severe risk of homelessness. The government claims it is serious about tackling the #homelessness crisis, with a focus on prevention — but removing a vital safety net and pushing families to the brink is doing exactly the opposite. #SpringStatement #RachelReeves #HousingCrisis #Benefits #PIP #Welfare #Budget

🏡 "I didn’t just lose my home — I lost my community." Barry is a born-and-bred Londoner who loved his Camden life. But after a Section 21 ‘no-fault’ eviction, everything changed. He was forced out of his flat, lost the community he'd built, and faced the very real risk of rough sleeping. That’s when we stepped in — offering Barry a place to stay before he spent even one night on the streets. Through our Achieving Potential programme, Barry’s rebuilt his confidence and found a new creative spark. In the past year, he’s performed in a play, taken photos for an exhibition, and is working towards a career in the arts again. 🗣 “I’ve done more in the last 12 months than in the last 10 years.” Barry’s story shows how much can be achieved with early intervention and outreach services, catching people early and stopping them from sleeping rough on our city's streets. 👉 Read his full story on our website. #EndSection21 #NoFaultEvictions #HousingCrisis #LivedExperience #LondonHousing #RoughSleeping

We often talk about the dangers of freezing cold or extreme heat – but the truth is, rough sleeping is always tough, whatever the weather. 🌧️☀️💨 No one should be sleeping on our streets. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. #WorldMeteorologicalDay #EndRoughSleeping #HomelessnessAwareness #WeatherDay

Supporting our residents to improve their health and wellbeing is a vital part of our work. Why? Because many of the people we work with face long-term health challenges linked to homelessness, particularly rough sleeping. Our Health Team runs a range of initiatives — from helping people access vital healthcare to lighter-touch support like health days and wellbeing workshops. Here’s Jay and Rebecca from our Health team, joined by local community nurse Florence, ready to deliver a nutrition workshop at one of our women’s hostels. 💬🍎 We’re rooting for healthy futures 🌱 #NutritionWeek #HydrationWeek #HealthyEating #HomelessnessAwareness #HealthAndWellbeing

What do you think of these photos of London from 1975...? Punk rock was about to hit the city like a storm, there was snow in June, Europe dominated the headlines with a referendum and protests on European integration....and Single Homeless Project was born. While we have grown beyond recognition since those early days, these origins continue to shape how we work and our vision of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life. Spring might be here, but it is still cold out there..., making life on the streets unpleasant, brutal and even dangerous. If you see someone sleeping rough on our streets, there are simple ways you can help: 💬 Check in – Say hello, have a chat, and ask if they need anything. ☕ A warm drink – Buy them a hot drink or food, or ask a café if they have a ‘pay it forward’ scheme. 🧣 Warm clothing – Donate a coat, blanket, hat, or gloves, or buy winter essentials from our Shop For Good. 📍 Streetlink – Use Streetlink to connect them with outreach teams. ❤️ Support our work – Every £1 donated helps Londoners at risk of homelessness. 📞 Call 999 – If someone is in danger or needs urgent medical help. 🔗 Find out more: shp.org.uk/winter 🔗 Donate: shp.org.uk/donate Please share this post so more people know how to help! 💙 #EndHomelessness #SpringButStillCold #ColdWeather #Spring #Crisp

🚨 LEARNING EVENT - TOMORROW (Tues 18) 🚨 Join us, Solace Women's Aid and Commonweal Housing for our online learning event on a new Housing First model for couples. 🏘️ Hear the accounts of survivors who were interviewed for the research, as well as from a range of great speakers, including Amy Doyle from Commonweal Housing , Amy Hewitt from Respect UK, and independent researcher Jackie Gallagher. Whether you design, deliver or commission services, this learning event will provide valuable insights in to how, using cross-sector collaboration, we can respond to the complex challenge of providing housing and support for couples where domestic abuse is present, in cases where the survivor is unable or not ready to leave the relationship.
