  • Addressing the Building Safety Act The Building Safety Act (BSA) and the resultant amended Building Regulations demand collaboration across the whole of the industry. As a long-time advocate for collaboration within our multi-disciplinary personnel – enshrined in our 1 Team ethos and project delivery teams – KK is ideally placed to provide this service. We recently announced Tim Clark's new role as Head of Training and Technical Excellence at KK. Over the last 16 months, Tim has been developing our processes and training to respond to the act. We are actively supporting our clients as Principal Designer for Building Regulations, including high risk buildings. • "A lot of good things come from women in construction or women in STEM environments and you could be the person that makes the change." Each year we have the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of women in our industry. This is particularly relevant in an industry like construction, which is stereotypically male dominated. At KK, we are proud to attract a diverse and inclusive workforce. Empowering women in the workplace is essential not just for equality, but for driving innovation and success across our business. One year ago, we had the privilege of hearing from some of our female colleagues about their experiences in the industry. Today, their insights remain just as powerful and relevant. We’re proud to share their thoughts once again… 🫶 Happy International Women's Week 🫶  #Inclusion #IWD #WomenInConstruction

  • Delivering Logistically Complex Projects in Operational Settings The KK team excels in tackling logistically complex designs within operational environments.  Bournemouth School occupies a compact site, surrounded by a protected copse on three sides, with a considerable change in level across the site and basement spaces to the rear. Faced with the need for expansion, KK explored options for a new sixth form and dining facility within the limited site constraints. The optimal location for these facilities was found to be the replacement of the basement below the playground. This enabled a smaller building footprint, while benefiting from the ability to build up from basement level to create three floors of school accommodation. Covering three storeys and 7,000 sq ft, the new block includes a sixth form study centre on the lower ground floor, complemented by modern kitchen facilities and a dining hall overlooking the protected copse. Collaborating with stakeholders, we developed creative solutions to balance buildability, noise, disruption and vibration, ensuring the school operated smoothly during the works. Through our 1 Team delivery model, we provided a range of services that culminated in construction of this state-of-the-art facility. 📸 Footage courtesy of LST Projects, the contractor who delivered this complex scheme. #education #facilities #sixthformcentre #construction

  • Retrofit: Transforming School Buildings into Energy-Efficient, High-Performance Spaces: SCOLA buildings, originally designed in the 1960s to meet the urgent demand for school accommodations, often suffer from poor insulation and outdated features, making them less than ideal learning environments. However, their robust structures present a unique opportunity for transformation through over-cladding, where we replace the outer layer with modern upgrades. At KK, we’ve successfully revamped several of these buildings, creating inspiring and efficient learning spaces across the country. The before and after images highlight what has been achieved through our collaborative efforts over the years… #SCOLA #Retrofit #SchoolBuildings #Construction Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ejK677YR

  • An Exciting Collaboration: Urgent Free Dental Clinic in Plymouth We are thrilled to share that we are partnering with The University of Plymouth and Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE) to create a new dental school in the heart of Plymouth. KK has been appointed to deliver a 1 Team service to the university, spanning RIBA Stage 1-6. The goal is to have the facility ready for the 5th-year student cohort in the 2025/26 academic year. The new facility will feature 14 practice chairs, with at least 8 designated for students, while the remaining 6 will accommodate practicing dentists and student practice rooms. Additionally, this initiative will enhance local community support by providing emergency dental care for individuals who are unable to access NHS services. Final-year students from the University of Plymouth's Peninsula Dental School will collaborate with specialists to deliver care to patients without an NHS dentist. We look forward to making a positive impact for students and the community through this project!   Found out more from today's article published from the BBC: https://lnkd.in/e4v-U8HY #dentistry #collaboration #community #project

  • "Everyone is responsible: feel empowered to speak out when we’re not fully satisfied with a situation" - a key message from our health and safety training led by Tim Clark. KK is proud to participate in RSK Group Health & Safety Month. Tim has been leading a series of health and safety sessions at KK this month, under the theme of "Be Prepared". The training is designed to promote awareness and stimulate discussion around health and safety, behaviours, responsibilities and safely managing change. • It’s Blue Monday! 💙 Today marks the third Monday of January, often referred to as the most depressing day of the year. The combination of returning to a post-New Year routine and the long, dark nights can weigh heavily on our spirits. In light of this, it’s essential that we support one another. Here at KK, some of our offices are enjoying cakes and conversation to lift our spirits. Taking breaks and connecting with colleagues is crucial for maintaining our well-being and fostering a positive work environment. We encourage everyone to reach out, share a moment of kindness, and remember that together we can navigate through these challenging times. Wishing everyone a non-blue "Blue Monday." We look forward to sharing more about how we can bring brightness to January and beyond! #bluemonday #uplifting #positive #workenvironment

  • A Significant Investment for Much Needed Improvements: We are delighted to be working with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust on this initiative. The funding and development at Torbay Hospital will be pivitol for the hospital team and the entire community. #project #healthcare #construction

We are delighted to share with you that our Emergency Department at Torbay Hospital will benefit from a £14.2million capital investment which will increase capacity and help reduce the time people are waiting for urgent and emergency care. This is fantastic news for the residents of Torbay and South Devon and for all our hardworking staff at Torbay Hospital. We are delighted that NHS England has recognised the need to invest in improvements to our Emergency Department at Torbay Hospital. Anyone who has attended our Emergency Department knows the challenges of our ageing estate and how this affects people’s waiting times and experiences. We currently do not have enough space to triage and treat people and our waiting area is both small and extremely busy. This multi-million pound investment will support us to make changes to the building that will improve how quickly we can see and treat people as well as improving people’s experience of our Emergency Department. We are using the additional capital funding to build a new wrap-around extension for the Emergency Department, using modern methods of construction for speed and efficiencies. Find out more about what this means for our urgent and emergency care services: https://lnkd.in/eX38m_GU
