“Mental health is a topic people want to talk about. Young people need to engage in policy making and hold the necessary institutions that have made agreements for mental health laws accountable. Accountability is important. " - Hauwa Ojeifo at the Being Initiative, Young Mothers’ Mental Health: Understanding and addressing their needs session, Women Deliver 2023 📽️ : https://lnkd.in/dgiUpaaK Hauwa is the Founder and Executive Director of She Writes Woman. Pivotal Ventures, a long-standing supporter of United for Global Mental Health praised Hauwa for empowering people with mental health conditions to share their stories and advocate for change. #MentalHealthForAll

As we mark the #GlobalWeekforActiononNCDs, we call upon governments and donors to lead with action! Our report, "Increase, Improve, and Integrate," highlights how integrating NCD and mental health finance can ensure person-centered care with 4 recommendations: ✨NCD and mental health financing should be integrated where possible and always complimentary ✨Domestic resources need to be increased and improved ✨Where domestic resources are not enough, catalytic donor finance is needed to create systemic change and sustainable financing solutions ✨Mental health and NCDS finances must be transparently and consistently monitored and tracked through participatory processes. ➡️Download the report here: https://lnkd.in/efa5BYJz 💡Follow this link to learn more about the NCD Alliance #LeadonNCDs campaign: https://lnkd.in/eqniDhVJ 📢Let's #LeadOnNCDs together and ensure that the promises are kept. #ActOnNCDs #MentalHealthMatters

Health workers’ are the backbone of our health care systems yet many struggle without the support they deserve. “Making mental health a core part of health workers’ benefits would ensure they receive the care they need,” says Aisha Abdullahi Bubah, a psychologist from Nigeria. 👉 Read her story here : http://bit.ly/3Y1EVYY Aisha Abdullahi Bubah Africa CDC ICN-International Council of Nurses IFMSA | International Federation of Medical Students' Associations World Health Organization Wellcome Trust Elton John AIDS Foundation The Global Fund Being Initiative Fondation Botnar Grand Challenges Canada #WMHD #WorkplaceMentalHealth #WMHD2024 #WorkplaceWellness

#Advocacy | # Mental Health Promotion needs to be taken today as long term investment | #AGIR no Promover Saúde Mental
Congrats to all Global Mental Health Action Network and United for Global Mental Health team for launching a Strategy_Vision that is a really call for action to all of us work collaborative, act aligned and together to face the challenge of mental health worldwide. Happy to be engaged and be part of it. I agree with you that could be sometimes frustrating working, in may case voluntary (and in a sense philanthropic) in this underfunded ecosystem. In the Brazilian context, we celebrate 20th years of ASEc+ Associação Pela Saúde Emocional purpose with implementations on Mental Health Promotion with many achievements, but still very, very, very far to be understood as a priority of investment on children, adolescents and youth and future generations, resilience. Yes, still too much to do. That's why we join efforts with you and are proud of it. That's why we really believe in the crucial role of Vertentes Ecossistema de Saúde Mental to develop a collective and systemic impact with all local and global alliances that we're building, to see a better world, in the coming years. Let's be positive. The world need us. I make Brazilians an invitation : Will you come with us? Eu deixo aqui um convite : Você quer vir conosco?? #saudementalimporta #promocaodesaudemental
It is exciting to be working in global mental health. It means interacting with people who are incredibly passionate about improving lives, with perspectives often rooted in real life, family and community experiences. But this work can also be frustrating. All too often, in meetings and events, I am reminded that it is a sector that remains unequal and, in certain respects, underdeveloped. Despite the increased interest in mental health over the past few years, our sector remains chronically and severely underfunded and there is still considerable stigma, and a significant (and increasing) global unmet need for the prevention and treatment of mental health conditions. It is in this context that we are launching today the new (and our first multi-year comprehensive) Strategy of the Global Mental Health Action Network. This Strategy is the collective "brainchild" of our membership and we have also spent time reflecting on what a reimagined global mental health sector might look like. So, as we are publishing our Strategy, we are also sharing a collective vision for what a different sector - perhaps a different world - might look like in 10 years. That is, if we work collectively and systematically in influencing, not only the decisions affecting people's lives but also, the structures (of power, healthcare, funding, training, partnering etc) affecting how we all work together in global mental health. Our collective 2035 vision is an ambitious reimagining of a different future. There is no other existing structure with the ability to facilitate ‘Global to Local implementation’ and ‘Local to Global influence’ in global mental health. We appreciate the responsibility that comes with our unique position, and we see our strategy as a vehicle that can help us realise these aspirations, contributing to this world that we want to see. Will you join us? https://lnkd.in/eY99XAs7 #mentalhealth #globalmentalhealth #globalhealth #decolonisingglobalhealth #publicmentalhealth

What’s your vision for a mentally healthy workforce? We asked health workers around the world to find out. 💬⬇️ Rachel Cheung an undergraduate medical student from IFMSA | International Federation of Medical Students' Associations is calling for health workplaces to prioritise wellbeing alongside patient care ensuring that: • work life balance is respected with reasonable shift hours • mental health support is readily available and di-stigmatised • Mandatory mental health education for all health workers The global health system needs to learn from those within it: to listen and respond to the needs of health workers. 📚 Read more on our blog from Dr. Hamdi Issa , our Senior Officer for Health Systems and our case studies here: http://bit.ly/3ZSfADu #WMHD #WorkplaceMentalHealth #WMHD2024 #WorkplaceWellness

“We are also human beings who need mental health support just as much as the patients we serve,” Joseph Macharia, Psychologist/MindSkillz Coach at LVCT HEALTH Long hours, limited resources, and a heavy patient load are pushing health workers like Joseph, a psychologist in Kenya, to the brink of burnout. Despite being the backbone of the healthcare system, many health workers like Joseph are left without the support they need to care for themselves. Facing overwhelming challenges in under-resourced government facilities, Joseph has joined our campaign, calling for better mental health support, investment, and recognition for the health workforce. Today, on World Mental Health Day, I am reflecting on a wonderful event last week, where I was able to connect with three inspirational leaders on physical, mental, and social wellbeing. lululemon hosted a discussion around our fourth annual Global Wellbeing Report, and I was lucky enough to be joined by Charlie Dark MBE, Jonny Davies, and Sarah Kline. We discussed the vital role that community plays in our wellbeing, and how we have to care for ourselves care in order to care for others. There were some incredible insights - including that the constant pressure to improve our wellbeing is making us less well! Small, simple acts like moving with others can help break the cycle – which we were lucky enough to experience in a beautiful movement class led by Mai Izumitani. I'm proud that lululemon supports the amazing work being undertaken by the charitable organisations United for Global Mental Health and Campaign Against Living Miserably to raise awareness and reduce stigma to support mental health around the world. Throughout October, lululemon is hosting events that prioritise connection, including a partnership with Dinner for 100, and proceeds from UK ticket sales, along with 10% of our UK sales today, will be donated to CALM to continue their incredible work. Often all it needs is a small step to start a journey of better wellbeing ... take one for yourself today :)

Today on World Mental Health Day, as well as everyday, the Global Alliance for Behavioral Health and Social Justice continues to advocate for centering mental health and well-being within and across all systems and settings.
