Today, Landscape Institute Scotland supported Learning through Landscapes 'Restoring Childhood' conference hosted at Queen Margaret University, Scotland. Director of Policy & Public Affairs, Belinda Gordon attended alongside Policy & Partnership Manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Hazel Benza, and Education Manager, Kelli Cochran-Sharp. The day was introduced by the CEO of Learning through Landscapes, Carley Sefton, who also took the opportunity to thank Merrick Denton-Thompson FLI PPLI who helped establish the organisation. There were excellent presentations delivered by many insightful speakers - including LI Scotland Chair, Rebecca Rylott FLI - where they discussed a range of topics relating to bringing nature to school to facilitate learning from an early age. This initiative helps to teach the next generation about the value of nature and biodiversity in landscapes, ensuring that future generations will benefit from a greener and healthier environment. #landscapearchitecture #nature #education #playgrounds

Yesterday, LI Chief Executive Robert Hughes and LI President, Carolin Göhler FLI were at the fabulous Connected Places Summit 2025 which was attended by many from across different industries within and related to landscape. It spotlighted innovation within the industry, with a high number of digital and AI applications represented that can aid strategic, design, implementation and management aspects. Most importantly, it highlighted that it isn’t just about information and skills sharing, but about effective collaboration. The summit provided ample opportunity to network with professionals and share industry insights with everyone from SMEs and start-ups to government representatives and industry giants. Carolin took part in a panel discussion on 'Places for innovation: enabling healthy and resilient public spaces' where they discussed innovation in high-quality public spaces while grappling with financial pressures, unclear policies and regulations, and clashing stakeholders. It gave her a chance to highlight the work of landscape professionals as well as the Landscape Institute. In particular she was able to emphasise the benefits of engaging our specialism early in any land transforming schemes. #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture #builtenvironment #climate
