We recently had the opportunity to work with The Prince's Trust, once again supporting them with their ‘Get into Construction’ programme which provides young people not in employment or education with the training and certification required to begin work in the construction industry. Industry professional Michal Ostrowski from Lawtech Group Ltd visited to talk to the delegates and provide them with some insight into what it’s like to work in the industry. After spending time with the delegates, Michal was particularly impressed with one young man, Kacper. "Kacper asked the right questions and paid full attention to what I was saying. Afterwards, he showed me his competencies and qualifications and asked me if I had any jobs - he was clearly a motivated young lad, and I had a good feeling about him." Since the course, Kacper has been employed by Sebastian Kubala from Kubala Construction Ltd, working on a Lawtech site in Southampton. We visited Kacper and Michal on site and were lucky enough to be greeted with sunshine whilst they discussed Kacper's progress. Michal explained, "He is great on tools, but I see potential in him to become a Trainee Assistant Site Manager in the next few months." The Camden Apprenticeship Awards 2024 recently took place at Samsung KX, recognising the work of apprentices working across London Borough of Camden, as well as the training providers and staff supporting them. Lawtech’s Apprentice RLO, Yasmin Goma, was nominated in recognition of her contribution to our Customer Service Team and the two projects she has worked on (Cromer Estate and Mosaic Estate). There were three categories – Best Team Player; Most Improved Apprentice; and Best Progression by an Apprentice – and Yasmin was shortlisted for all three! Yasmin’s nomination included the following sentiments: - “From the moment Yasmin joined our team she has excelled in her role.” - “Each day comes with different obstacles and new challenges, and Yasmin overcomes every situation, going above and beyond.” - “Yasmin is always willing to go the extra mile without any hesitation or complaint. For example, we had a newsletter that needed to be distributed to a new project on the day of approval by our client. As we didn’t have any printing facilities on site, Yasmin offered – without hesitation – to travel by public transport to another site (2 hours away), print 1,000 newsletters, and travel to the new site to hand-deliver these to each resident before the end of the day.” Our Customer Service Manager was so proud to have attended the event with Yasmin, and watching her win Best Team Player. We are delighted to see the new facade emerging in stages as the scaffold is lowered at Empress Heights in #Southampton. We are providing multidisciplinary lead consultant services to design and manage the delivery of the facade replacement works across all external wall systems within this prominent eight storey residential building accommodating 96 apartments and ground floor commercial units. The core goal of the project is to achieve an acceptable EWS1 Form rating on completion, and so our robust design (and Lawtech Group Ltd’s through on-site QA process) ensure removal of all combustible materials. Enhancements in thermal performance and air-tightness have been balanced with careful prevention of interstitial condensation. Despite changes to external finishes, replacements were meticulously researched to maintain the building’s original aesthetics, for example replacing timber weatherboarding with Rockpanel Woods, manufactured through an innovative production process to look just like real wood. We are working with Homes England and DLUHC through the building safety fund programme. The works are due to be completed in 2024. 2023 has been an extremely successful year for Lawtech’s Southern Region, who have completed several substantial cladding remediation schemes. These include those photographed: Collins Place, Priory View, and Empire View & Gantry Court. Collins Place is a large, multi-occupied residential building fronting Fratton Bridge roundabout in Portsmouth. Working with VIVID and Bailey Partnership, Lawtech were tasked with the replacement of combustible cladding, balcony decking and installation of cavity barriers to all elevations of the block. Replacement systems included: - Valcan® - Manufacturer of Non-Combustible Cladding Materials Vitradual aluminium rainscreen panels - AliDeck | Aluminium Balcony Solutions Junior decking boards - Siderise Group cavity barriers - The installation of a new Sika 625N reinforced liquid overlay roofing system over both stairwells Priory View is 10 storeys at its tallest point, comprising of 71 residential flats. Lawtech were contracted by Clarion Housing Group to replace the combustible EPS render, timber cladding, and balcony decking to all elevations of the block. We worked closely with Martin Arnold Ltd to ensure the project was a success. Replacement systems included: - ROCKWOOL UK DuoSlab insulation - An SPSenvirowall Ltd render system - Rockpanel FS-Xtra panels - AliDeck Senior decking boards Empire View & Gantry Court are nine-storey residential blocks located in Southampton. Cladding remediation works were completed on behalf of VIVID Homes and Bailey Partnership, and involved removal of the EWI cladding system, 1,754m2 of brickwork back to the substrate, and combustible balcony decking.
