🎨 BUILDING FUTURES, ONE BRUSHSTROKE AT A TIME 🎨 At Skillcrown, we believe in building more than just homes – we build communities, creativity and lasting legacies.  That’s why we are incredibly proud to have played a role in bringing a beautiful new artwork to life at Dulverton Primary School in New Eltham. The school recently unveiled the ‘Building Futures, One Brushstroke at a Time’ project, a striking mosaic artwork featuring self-portraits of pupil’s arranged across a world map.  This powerful piece celebrates the rich cultural heritage and diversity of the school’s community, making a lasting impact for generations to come. This initiative, in collaboration with BexleyCo Homes and Martin Arnold Ltd, came in response to the unfortunate loss of the mosaics at the former Sidcup Library.  Though we couldn’t preserve the original artwork, we were determined to give something back - and what emerged is something truly special. The unveiling was a joyous occasion, attended by the talented young artists, teachers, school council members, representatives from Bexley Council and our project partners.  The children proudly donned hard hats and art aprons as they revealed their masterpiece – a true testament to their hard work and imagination, inspired by the vibrant style of Brazilian artist Romero Britto. A welcome boost for affordable housing! Great news for the sector today - the government has announced a further £300m top-up to the Affordable Homes Programme (2021-26), following the £500m boost in the autumn budget.  This latest funding is said to enable 2,800 additional homes, with half designated for social rent - crucial for tackling the housing crisis. The grant is available for bidding immediately, with £60m allocated to London via the GLA and £240m to the rest of England through Homes England.  The government has also pledged an extra £50m for the Local Authority Housing Fund, helping councils secure better-quality temporary accommodation. At Skillcrown, we welcome this commitment to delivering much-needed affordable housing. We often see firsthand the demand for high-quality, accessible homes and this funding is a step in the right direction.  However, with 160,000 children currently in temporary accommodation, the scale of the challenge remains significant. The government’s ambition to build 1.5 million homes over the next five years is bold, but with continued investment, planning reform and collaboration between the public and private sectors – we hope, as a country, we can make it happen. #AffordableHousing #SocialHousing #HousingCrisis #UKHousing #Skillcrown

Celebrating Burns Night at Skillcrown! Today, we’re raising a glass to Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet and celebrating the rich culture and traditions of Burns Night! Burns Night is all about gathering together to enjoy the famous address to a Haggis, indulge in delicious Scottish fare and reflect on the enduring legacy of Burns’ poetry and contributions.  From the traditional haggis, neeps and tatties to the sound of bagpipes, it’s a wonderful reminder of the importance of heritage and community.
