    Right LinkedIn - looking for some opinions on this... part-time marketing director vs fractional CMO Gone are the days when I had a job title and everything was easy. I was never a big fan of them, but they served a purpose. I don't have a job title as such any more, but I do have a name for what I do. I also work closely with others who work in a similar way and there is some dispute over what we are calling ourselves. You will see in my profile I have have taken the easy route and used all options. Fractional (part-time) Marketing Director/CMO. Sitting on the fence...like Trevor Brooking. I actually prefer Part-Time Marketing Director, while my colleagues are going down the Fractional CMO route. I think they think it makes them sound a bit more James Bond. Personally, I think Marketing Director is more relevant to the UK and to SME's - it's also a bit more traditional (like me x). CMO is more American, bigger organisations etc. They both equate to the same thing - we provide 'cost-effect marketing direction and support for multiple clients'. It's one of the fastest growing trends in management, hugely influenced by the lockdown. The important thing is what does the audience think... Do they understand what either of these things mean and whether it is relevant to them? I've tried introducing myself as a Fractional CMO and I seem to get the same response in terms of what people say, think and do... They SAY - 'Oh, how interesting' They THINK - 'What the fuck does that mean' They DO - Smile politely and walk away. When I say Part-Time Marketing Director, they say 'what do you do for the rest of the time?' - everyone's a comedian! So what is the view out there? The search data says its actually 'Marketing Consultant' is the most used. 'Fractional CMO' is on the rise (probably people trying to find out what it means!) and 'part-time marketing director' is a non-starter (people think us marketers only work part-time anyway!). So what are the thoughts of the people on LinkedIn? What do you prefer? What resonates better? Do you know people like me exist and do you understand what we do?     This is an interesting case study for a brand a lot of you will be familiar with, sweating away in the gym, hating every minute but feeling that smug glow at the end of the session. Or maybe that's just me! This is by one of the part-time marketing directors I work with at Leadership Services. I have been working with him this week, putting together a proposal for a B2B manufacturer, bringing the principles of this case study to a completely different industry. We are seeing some interest from B2B businesses who are looking to scale and to this point haven't felt the need for an active marketing strategy. Could you apply this case study to your business?
