Food prices in the UK have shown signs of easing, offering some relief to consumers. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), food inflation slowed to 13.6% in the year to May 2024, down from 15.7% in April. While still high, this marks a notable deceleration in price increases. But while we breathe a sigh of relief on rising costs, let's not forget the pressing issue of food waste. The UK continues to grapple with significant food waste. Approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption in the UK goes uneaten, mirroring global trends. This waste not only represents economic inefficiency but also contributes to methane emissions from landfills, exacerbating environmental concerns. The UK government, in collaboration with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), has set ambitious targets to address food waste, aiming to halve food waste by 2030, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 12.3. While progress has been made, there's still work to be done. Reducing food waste remains both a moral imperative and an environmental necessity in the UK. By tackling this issue, we can contribute to food security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create a more sustainable food system for future generations. Have you taken any steps to reduce food waste in your home or business? What methods have worked best for you? 🚯 Let's talk about food sustainability and solutions that can make a real difference. #FoodWaste #Sustainability #FoodPrices #USDA #Environment #ConsumerAwareness
About us
Unavoidable commercial food waste is a 361.9Mt global problem, especially when that food waste ends up in landfills contributing to methane emissions. But separating food waste from general waste is a hassle, especially if it only makes up a small proportion. Collecting the separated food waste is inefficient and costly, and its destination is opaque. UK and EU legislation add a burden of being compliant to every hospitality and non-hospitality business - no matter the size - and providing reports in response to inevitable food waste audits is a headache. Limetrack’s low-friction digital B2B food waste management platform eases that pain, ensuring that all businesses are fully compliant, that food waste is cost-effectively collected, tracked and processed, and that Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions are reduced and accurately reported. Our ruthless pursuit of simplicity and compliance ensures success and supports every business’s journey to net zero.

Did you know that nearly a fifth of all food produced ends up wasted? This not only impacts our environment but also our wallets and food security. 💡 Here's why addressing food waste should be on every organisation's agenda: 1. Scale of the Issue: 24% of water used in agriculture ends up on food that will never be consumed. Imagine the resources we're wasting! 2. Environmental Concerns: Food waste significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. By reducing waste, we can mitigate climate change. 3. Financial Benefits: The average British household throws away around £730 worth of food annually. Reducing waste can lead to substantial savings. 4. Enhancing Food Security: Wasted food could feed families in need. Organisations like FareShare UK, The Trussell Trust Foodbank and The Felix Project are already making strides, but there's much more potential. 5. Business Incentives: Businesses can see positive returns from reducing food waste, including tax incentives and reduced trash pickup costs. 🌱 Reducing food waste is not just an environmental imperative—it's a social and economic opportunity too. ✅ What steps can your organisation take to tackle food waste? Shocking Stats: Landfills are a Major Source of Methane Emissions A new study by Carbon Mapper reveals that landfills are a significant source of methane, a potent greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. This invisible threat is now visible from space with the help of methane-detecting satellites! Key takeaways: • Landfills are the 3rd largest source of human-caused methane in the US. • Landfills emit methane at a rate exceeding EPA standards for the oil & gas industry. • Simple solutions exist: waste prevention, food recovery, anaerobic digestion & composting programs. Limetrack's food waste reduction platform helps businesses track, analyse & reduce food waste, diverting organic materials from landfills, reducing methane emissions and combating climate change. Let's turn food waste into opportunity. Learn more about Limetrack today! #methane #foodwaste #sustainability #climatechange https://lnkd.in/gFaf-uSX

Powering Ahead with Food Waste Recycling and Reduction. A big thanks to Recorra for inviting Limetrack to see their bins swap-and-wash facility in Purfleet and understand how our SMART bins can be effortlessly incorporated into their operations. The SMART bins will be deployed to one of Recorra’s high-profile customers in West London, where they are looking to measure, report and reduce their food waste (more details to follow in the next few weeks…). With Recorra’s plans for 100% electric trucks to be rolled out across the entire fleet and Limetrack’s SMART bins providing frictionless data capture, analysis and reporting on food waste, the road to net zero has just become much shorter. Why not pop by the Heathrow Business Summit today and visit Andy King? He's there all day to talk about how Limetrack can help you reduce your food waste and save you truck-loads of money!
Please return your seats to the upright position and fasten your seatbelts as Limetrack prepares for take-off. Following on from our recent successful pitch at Heathrow’s Lift Off event, which helps local SMEs to engage with the airport supply chain, we have been invited to exhibit at the Heathrow Business Summit on Thursday 16th November. You can easily find us: we are the only ones with a SMART IoT-connected wheelie bin. Its effortless data capture measures, manages, reports, helps reduce and audits ground-based food waste, bringing both financial and emissions reduction benefits to Heathrow and its 96 hospitality outlets. Heathrow has a documented target to reduce its ground based-emissions by at least 45% by 2030 and Limetrack can help them on their journey and arrive ahead of schedule. Did you know that new waste and recycling regulations come into force in 2025, requiring every small, medium and large business in England to have a separate food waste collection service? If, like Heathrow, you want to reduce, redistribute and recycle your food waste, please get in contact.
