Food waste recycling made easy, working to reduce 100 millionT CO2 emission in 10 years.
About us
Vuala is a company working to make food waste recycling easy with our automatic food waste separation technology. Our mission is to reduce 100 million tonnes of CO2 in 10 years. Our solution, Vuala X1 is a bio-mechanical system, integrated with specialised micro-organisms and bacteria to automatically separate food waste from other wastes, turning them into raw material for biogas and hydrogen production within hours onsite. Vuala X1 allows food waste to be stored up to a month without smell, significantly delaying collection frequency, saving 95% labour and logistics cost while reducing 75% CO2 emission. Vuala is supported by Heathrow Airport, University of Cambridge, HSBC, Octopus Venture, Bloomberg, Millennium Hotels & Resorts Group and InnovateUK, piloting its technology in 10 sites across London and Cambridge.

Ensuring positive societal benefits is essential, as is being economically beneficial. This is a key message from my latest interview at #COP28 Dubai. As shown in our latest #VualaX1 installation, Vuala’s solution is £75/tonne cheaper than the current market rate for food waste management service in London and Cambridge. The #VualaX1 has also proven it’s ability to recycle and turn 100% food waste into raw material for energy production. The #VualaX1, although the result of years of dedicated effort, is, from our standpoint, more than a mere scientific achievement. It is a strategic business tool aimed to make food waste recycling easy and accessible. Vuala, UNICEF Innovation Homerton College Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation

Thank you ❖ Jonathan Winter for the opportunity to talk about my journey at Vuala. This podcast documents the essential start of our journey, how my visit to a landfill in India inspired me and how I persuaded my role model to quit his job for 35 years to join Vuala as Chief Technology Officer. Thank you Dr Soraya Jones and Jeanette Walker introducing me to the fantastic ❖ Jonathan Winter Full podcast via: https://lnkd.in/e_9kub2h
What does it take to innovate? This month's guest, environmental entrepreneur Abiel Ma, has a clear recipe and it's more about hard work and persistence than solitary genius. That persistence has unfolded into a remarkable story of cross-generational teamwork, since Abiel succeeded (eventually) in persuading his father Anthony Ma to join as CTO of Vuala, a start-up pioneering new ways to help businesses deal with food waste. This year Abiel has received recognition as a UNICEF young innovator shaping the future, and won an Innovate UK Young Innovator's Award 2023. He also seems to have a particularly sensitive sense of smell, which is useful for his profession and beneficial for the rest of us!
