Today, we welcomed our new IGNITE year group, looking sharp and eager to learn! They met their form tutors and were introduced to Jill Davies, our Principal. They had sessions throughout the day learning about our values, culture, and Project Based Learning… all the elements that make the Studio School and Life Sciences UTC unique 👩🔬 We believe every day is an interview, and we're excited to see how this phrase shapes their journey this academic year! 🌟 #BuildingFutures #AcademicExcellence #LeadersOfTomorrow #BrightBeginnings
About us
Liverpool Life Sciences UTC is the first school in the UK to specialise in Science and Health Care for 14 to 19 year olds. The UTC provides outstanding academic and vocational education by working closely with local employers to create the next generation of scientists, healthcare practitioners, engineers and entrepreneurs. We run a longer school day which allows us time to invest in more than just delivering an exceptional core school curriculum. Students experience masterclasses each week from industry experts, the University of Liverpool and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital Trust. Students participate in half termly industry inspired projects. Most recent of which, based upon the work of Eden Biodesign, helped students to understand recombinant proteins and their role in the development of therapies such as insulin. Students were able to present their research back to a team of experts from Eden Biodesign., A fantastic opportunity to build the confidence of our students, whilst helping industry partners to cherry pick the talent of the future. We also run an extensive work placement plan to help students understand the vast range of opportunities available in this sector and gain valuable experience, opening doors to work and supporting their applications to universities. We work with a range of businesses across the life science sector, including Redx Pharma, Pro-Lab Diagnostics, MAST, Nutricia, Eden Biodesgin plus many more to ensure we are grounded within the future skills these businesses need and that we in turn are able to deliver students with the skills, understanding and experience they need to support workforce planning. We are interested to hear from any businesses within the sector that would like to understand more about what we’re doing and would be interested in promoting their business and roles to our students. Likewise, we are always keen to hear from exceptional teachers who might be interested to join us.

Hello Network, First of all I would like to begin by congratulating everyone who received their results yesterday. Well done!! We all worked really hard as the first cohort to sit both GCSEs and A-Levels post-pandemic. These past two years have been full of very valuable lessons. Believe me when I say that sixth form/college will help you mature and grow into a level-headed young adult, especially when you are in an environment that allows you to do so. I went into Year 12 thinking that getting top grades would be an easy task but little did I know that a year later I would be averaging As in chemistry, Cs in Maths and Ds in Biology. I am honestly so grateful to have had family and friends who have supported me throughout the journey, and most essentially God. I would not have successfully gotten through these exams without Him. I want to also thank Liverpool Life Sciences UTC for the support they provide to their students. Not only did they offer unique opportunities like the medic cadets programme and clinical skills enrichment, they also ensured that I enjoyed and learnt from these activities. Before going into sixth form, I was told severally that learning is a lot more independent, which IS true. However, I had amazing teachers who kept track of my progress and scheduled revision sessions when needed. Overall, I do not regret choosing this sixth form! I am glad to announce that I have achieved four As in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Spanish, and was confirmed a place at the University of Bath!

Now that the summer holidays are in full swing, it's possible to reflect on a great year for learners at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School Liverpool. One of the highlights is the publication of the latest edition of our revamped Baltic Research Journal. This journal summarises exciting research led by our students and reviewed and edited by students in our Baltic Research Institute. In this edition you can read original research about the potential of bacteriophage viruses in the fight against AMR and a prototype bionic arm concept that utilises myoelectric signals. You can also find out about student collaborations with AstraZeneca, Alfred H Knight, Autodesk, The Institute for Research in Schools, Andrew J. Lee, Business of Science Conference and more. Please download and give us feedback. Thanks to everyone who has supported our students this year.
