  • This week, as part of a suite of letters to the new Government which lay out Hounslow’s willingness to work with them in a number of priority areas - Local Government Funding, Housing, Net Zero and Health and Care Integration - the Leader of Hounslow Council, Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, has formally written to the Chancellor, the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves MP, to reaffirm the Council’s commitment to delivering equitable growth for all our communities. The Leader’s letter is clear that - with the second highest GVA per hour worked in London, and a contribution to the national economy greater than that of major cities like Belfast, Liverpool and Sheffield - Hounslow is poised and ready to lead in mission of national renewal. The Council’s comprehensive regeneration plans under Opportunity Hounslow, provide a roadmap for targeted development, supporting delivery of thousands of homes and jobs, and ensuring our communities thrive To fully realise our vision, the Council is committed to working in partnership with the Government to secure stable, fair, and sufficient funding to realise our shared vision for economic growth.   In his letter Cllr Rajawat has invited the Chancellor to visit #Hounslow to demonstrate how we can collaboratively shape a prosperous future. • Today, Hounslow Council's Cabinet Member for Assets, Regeneration & Development, Councillor Tom Bruce, wrote to the Deputy Prime Minister @AngelaRayner MP, to reaffirm his commitment to delivering housing and driving sustainable economic growth! 🌍 Cllr Bruce is eager to work with the government to provide genuinely affordable housing and the infrastructure needed to boost economic and social growth in West London. With over 5,000 homes delivered from 2019 to 2023 and ambitious plans to build 28,800 more by 2041, Hounslow is ready to lead by example. Under Opportunity Hounslow, the town centre masterplans for Brentford, Hounslow, and Feltham will create thousands of homes and jobs, ensuring our communities thrive. As we align with Labour's pledge to build 1.5 million homes nationwide, we're also focused on maintaining the quality and affordability of housing in our borough. Cllr Bruce invited the Secretary of State to visit our borough and work closely with us to meet housing targets and unlock the full potential of Hounslow as a key driver of economic growth in the capital and the UK. • The Mayor of Hounslow recently unveiled a one-of-a-kind mosaic on the walkway at Feltham station on 12 July 2024 alongside Seema Malhotra, Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston and the Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Home Office). The Mosaic was installed by Hounslow Highways and was created by Mural Mosaic, which unites artists from Hounslow and the world together in one powerful collaborative art project.  Feltham was selected to host the national mural for England, which has almost 1,300 tiles painted by people and groups connected to England. The application to host the England mural was submitted by Feltham Station Adoption Group, working with Feltham Community Development Association, and with the support of Hounslow Council and South West Railway. Community group members then liaised with Mural Mosaic and organised the distribution of 100 painting kits to Feltham communities including schools, residents associations, scout and guide groups and voluntary organisations. The painted tiles include a range of different local landmarks, as well as other artwork reflecting local creativity and interests. The 100 painting kits, production of the mural and installation were sponsored by the council.
