The voice of cyclists in London, working to create a better city since 1978
About us
WHO WE ARE The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) represents the interests of those who cycle in the capital and those who want to. Member-led, we have 20,000 supporters of whom 12,000 are paying members. Our vision for London is a city where people of all ages and abilities can cycle safely and enjoyably, and we believe that making cycling the number one transport choice for everyday local journeys will generate immense quality of life, environmental, health and economic benefits for everyone. We campaign for London’s political leaders and decision-makers to remove the barriers that prevent people benefiting from the freedom and convenience that cycling brings, including by developing and proposing our own innovative solutions. We also work in partnership with businesses, local authorities, community groups, schools and other institutions to directly promote cycling at the grass roots and across all London’s communities. OUR VISION Our vision is to transform our city into a healthier, greener and happier place to live, where anyone who wants to cycle can do so safely and enjoyably. OUR MISSION The London Cycling Campaign: • Campaigns to make cycling safe and inviting for everyone • Supports our 12,000 members • Runs projects to promote cycling to and for everyone THE VALUES UNDERPINNING OUR CAMPAIGNING We believe in: • A better London - one that that is freed from over-reliance on motor vehicles and whose neighbourhoods and places are safer, greener, healthier and more vibrant as a result. • A globally-sustainable London – one that plays its full role in averting climate change and preserving the global environment and the Earth’s natural resources for the benefit of future generations. • The power of voluntary organisations to advise decision-makers and hold them to account, and to deliver change at the grassroots. • Diversity and equality, promoting both within the charity and across our work.

⚠️ [NEW] Today, London lorries get safer forever thanks to London Cycling Campaign work over 10+ years. Now drivers can see the road around them better. https://lnkd.in/egdKTQmF Currently 1 in 2 of all cycling fatalities and 1 in 5 of all pedestrian fatalities in London involve a lorry, despite lorries driving only 4% of vehicle miles in London. These world-leading changes to lorry design come from our campaigning since 2016, when we first got a promise from the Mayor to deliver safer lorries. BUT it's not over. We checked every London council lorry contract to find out if they are delivering on building site and driver training safety standards, and some of their work is incredibly poor. In particular today we're naming and shaming London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, London Borough of Bexley, Enfield Council and Lewisham Council who all score zero for lorry safety standards on our new map. We're hugely proud of our long-term staff member Tom Bogdanowicz who has worked on this for over ten years, and all the many campaigners and staff who have made this happen. 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝘀 In September last year, Harry Webb was one of three cyclists killed within weeks of each other in Hackney. After protests by LCC's local group in the area, Hackney Cycling Campaign (HCC), London Borough of Hackney spoke of a need for safer streets in the borough. Yet despite this, London Borough of Hackney are moving forward with plans to redesign Pembury Circus, plans which do next to nothing to address the serious need for infrastructure which is safe for cycling, unlike the proposal by our local group (see picture 4). On the proposed new look for Pembury Circus, Harry's parents, Pat and Mike Webb, stated... “I ask that you explain why the council is abandoning the safety principles they have previously championed... HCC has shown it is possible to achieve all these aims, and yet you are proceeding with an approach which excludes safe cycling regardless." To make your voice heard, just Google 'Make Pembury Circus Safe for Cycling' and follow the instructions on the Hackney local group website: https://lnkd.in/eP8X6Brc #pemburycircus #hackney #londoncycling

🤝 "I was delighted when I found out that we’d got the funding. Over the summer we ran a lot of bike repair workshops and cycling lessons for kids, and being able to deliver those workshops was invaluable. "I’d really recommend applying for the funding, because as great as the money is, the connections you get from it, from both London Cycling Campaign and the fellow funding recipients, is something that’s worth the time applying alone." - Phil Dobson, upCYCLE London 💚 The second window for 'Share the Joy' funding applications, in association with Lime and LOUD MOBILITY is still open! Once again, the funding is looking to go towards cycling groups and projects that promote... 👉 Health & Wellbeing 👉 Accessibility & Inclusion 👉 Skills & Connectivity If that sounds like your group, or a group you know off, head to our website for all the details on how to apply: https://lnkd.in/e8mhAgEE Please note, the deadline for applications is 𝟭𝟭𝗽𝗺 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟬 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿.

We need to talk about bike theft. 6 in 10 people who have a bike stolen cycle less often, or stop altogether. 80,000 bikes are stolen in London every year. London Cycling Campaign are working with ABUS Security Tech Germany to tackle bike theft. We want more resources for the Met Police to take this issue seriously - this is theft of vital transport, not a toy. We've produced a resource here about how to protect your bike against theft: https://lnkd.in/ePax69yk You want to invest 10-20% of the value of your bike in locks, and your main lock should be at minimum Sold Secure Silver rated. We've made a video on how *not* to lock your bike - all using examples from within a 10 minute radius of a central London station. There are a lot of badly-locked bikes out there, so spread the word and let's not make it easy for thieves. https://lnkd.in/e44MYrwN We've spoken to BBC News London about the rise in violent bike theft https://lnkd.in/eMeERK4w And here's our 30 second demonstration of how to lock - send it to a friend who might need to know... https://lnkd.in/eCn4R-GN And remember, you can claim a free ABUS Security Tech Germany D-lock and cable (Gold Sold Secure rated) when you join London Cycling Campaign as a new individual or household member by Direct Debit. Already a member? Refer a friend & you'll both get a lock. https://lnkd.in/e6MJSKVs

Every day London is changing for the better thanks to volunteers like Toby. There is no London Cycling Campaign without you. Thank you.
I had a great time today volunteering with London Cycling Campaign, helping to spread the word and connect with fellow cyclists. 🚴♂️ London Cycling Campaign works to make our streets safer, greener, and more inclusive by advocating for improved cycling infrastructure, cleaner air, and sustainable transport solutions across the city. Their mission is to create a healthier, more liveable London for everyone. Even while balancing part-time work and studies, it's incredibly fulfilling to volunteer for a cause that’s shaping the future of our urban environment. #CyclingAdvocacy #SustainableCities #Volunteering #LondonCycling

🙌 A big LCC thank you to Mike and Sanal for their brilliant fundraising efforts for this year's London to Brighton! "The ride was a huge amount of fun and there was a really nice camaraderie between the riders. My favourite moment was probably hearing a woman play ‘I like to move it, move it’ on her Bluetooth speaker while riding along - that certainly increased my cadence! "The worst bit of the ride was filtering in and out of traffic in Brighton on the way to the finish line - a real reminder of the importance of high quality cycling infrastructure of the sort which LCC continue to fight for."- Mike "It's a very different ride to what I have done before. Long uphill sections and the corresponding downhills. "Ditchling Beacon is a mountain, after 45 miles of cycling, even pushing the bike up for the best of a part of a mile is hard going. Overall I loved it. Looking forward to next year." - Sanal 🖥️ Thank you both, and if you want to get involved in future fundraising opportunities, sign-up to our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eNA_32_w

Share The Joy Fund round 2 is open now! https://lnkd.in/e8mhAgEE This £100,000 community cycling fund in partnership with Lime x LOUD MOBILITY x London Cycling Campaign is here to help you share the joy of cycling. 🔧 Barny used it to help train unemployed local residents into expert mechanics - like Alejandro, (pictured 1) now employed with top bike brand and workshop Balfe's Bikes. Barny (pictured 2) said: "The Share the Joy fund let us offer a wraparound service to our participants. They receive a qualification and work experience, but more importantly, find community and friendship. This is especially important to those who've struggled with their mental health and social isolation. “Participants walk away after their time with us with a new sense of purpose and find meaningful and fulfilling full-time employment elsewhere. Magic!" ⭐ Wheels For Wellbeing (pictured 3) used their Share the Joy grant to expand their events this summer: “So many people don’t realise that they could cycle, given the right cycle and the right support and encouragement! It has been wonderful to be able to take our cycles out to events organised by other community groups, and to reach new people.” 🚲💻✏️ The grant covers core costs, project costs, or new equipment. How could it help you? Deadline for Round 2 applications is 11pm Sunday 10 November 💚 Find out more & apply now https://lnkd.in/e8mhAgEE
