🎤 PhD student Nils Mallock was interviewed by German broadcaster ARD about recent developments in the Gaza conflict, specifically about the protests against Hamas by Palestinians. Nils explains that this kind of open protest against Hamas is a new development. After 18 months, many Palestinians, like many others in the region, are tired of war. The societal contract of Hamas with the local population (as protection and as a conflict actor like in this current war) is not perceived as strongly as in the past. 📹 Watch the interview (in German - Nils appears around 6 mins in): https://lnkd.in/ePCtCGrq #Gaza #Conflict #Protest #Research #PhD

My latest story for Forbes is out! This time, I wrote about the book and work of my esteemed colleagues and mentor, Pr Saadi Lahlou, from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His work on what is known as 'Installation theory' in academic circles offers a novel approach to understanding how society channels behaviours. His latest book is a must-read for academics and practitioners interested in behavioural change. #ForbesStory #Psychology #Research #BehaviouralScience #BehaviouralChange

I returned to my alma mater yesterday as a guest lecturer for the LSE Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science. The students were brimming with insight from their unique global contexts, and I left reminded by why I loved spending the first portion of my career investing in the next generation. Young people are consistently underestimated for their brilliance. Here's some of the research we unpacked: 1. Leadership is not something inherent within a person, it is dynamically attributed through followership (Haslam, Reicher, Platow, 2020) 2. Without bodies, this relational process wouldn't happen. We 'cannot escape the fact' that we relate to one another 'in and through bodies' (Ladkin, 2013) 3. Against all evidence, 'research consistently behaves like leadership is a degendered and disembodied process' (Sinclair, 2005a; and Knights, 2022; Ladkin, 2013) 4. 'Focus on bodies as possibilities, not constraints' when transforming leaders and organisations (Sinclair, 2005a). Start small and notice how bodies show up. How can we include our bodies in work and become more aware of how being in bodies shapes our perception, cognitive performance, behaviors and social connection? The students brainstormed many practical, simple ways to begin including the body in research methodologies, leadership effectiveness, change management and team performance. We talked about walking meetings to regulate emotions, play to boost creativity, sensory tools to generate focused presence, and semi-structured interviews to allow space for real-time, body-based intelligence in research. What are some of your tools?
