About us
London Transport Museum explores the story of London and its transport system over the last 200 years, highlighting the powerful link between transport and the growth of modern London, culture and society since 1800. We care for over 450,000 items - preserving, researching and acquiring objects to use in our galleries, exhibitions and other activities. As well as exploring the past, the Museum looks at present-day transport developments and concepts for urban transportation in the future, which includes a contemporary collecting policy for the benefit of future generations.

Did you know that our important restoration project, getting the last three 1930s Q stock Underground carriages back up and running, was kickstarted thanks to a gift left to the Museum in a will? It’s Remember A Charity Week – an important opportunity for us to recognise people like the Underground mechanical engineer Bob Greenaway, who have so generously chosen to leave a gift to us so we can deliver our important work ❤ Gifts left to the Museum in wills help us safeguard iconic transport heritage and inspire younger generations to pursue careers in the transport industry. Find out more about the impact your gift could make in our latest blog from Pauline Pinto, Senior Philanthropy Manager at the Museum. Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/eWQwwD2u #RememberACharityWeek

Did you know that Montpellier has a free public transport initiative for all residents of the area's 31 municipalities? It’s just one of the case studies that we explore in our report, Making Transport Fit for the Future. Published as part of our thought leadership programme Interchange, it explores how we achieve transport networks that meet passengers’ needs, in turn making it easier for people to choose sustainable travel options. It was published in partnership with Mott MacDonald, Gowling WLG and Hitachi Rail. Explore the report’s findings: https://lnkd.in/dMNCYhEn #TransportFitForTheFuture

How do we achieve transport networks that meet passengers’ needs and make it easier for us all to choose sustainable travel options? We teamed up with Mott MacDonald, Gowling WLG and Hitachi Rail to publish a new report exploring this question and providing an insight into the steps that need taking. We found that long-term planning needs to be implemented, and this should be underpinned by a consideration of three key questions or ‘building blocks’: ✔️ Strong foundations – where are we now? ✔️ Visionary outlook – where do we want to get to? ✔️ Bold transition – how do we get there? As well as unpacking what these three building blocks mean, the report is punctuated with national and international case studies – each providing key learnings and success stories. Last week we were thrilled to welcome business leaders, policy makers, and industry experts to the Museum to mark the publication of our new report, Making Transport Fit for the Future. The report, published as part of our Interchange programme, demonstrates that long-term planning needs to be implemented to ensure transport services meet passengers’ needs. Thank you to all who attended the launch event and contributed towards such a thought-provoking discussion. And a special thank you to our panel, Patricia Hayes CB, London TravelWatch; Glenn Lyons, Mott MacDonald; Claire Taylor, Sheffield City Council; Mark Evers, Transport for London; our panel chair, Paul Tuohy, Campaign for Better Transport; and to Annette Smith, Mott MacDonald, for introducing the report. The report is a collaboration with Mott MacDonald, Gowling WLG and Hitachi Rail. #TransportFitForTheFuture Read the report: https://lnkd.in/dMNCYhEn Do you want to find out how your company can get involved in our Interchange programme?
