Love Design Studio carried out an energy study of the Barbican Estate on behalf of City of London Corporation and The Recognised Tenants Association (RTA). Parametric modelling techniques were used to assess retrofit interventions across the +2,000 dwellings. A cost benefit analysis then helped City of London and the RTA understand what the potential carbon, energy and cost savings were and their effectiveness. PLANNING APPROVED We are delighted to share that following the St Albans City & District Council planning committee last night, permission has been granted for 4 new detached family houses in Chiswell Green, St Albans Working proactively with the Council throughout the application, the scheme went forward to committee with Officer's recommendation for approval and our proposals were well received. The Council considered the weight afforded to the delivering much-needed housing on unutilised garden land, along with sustainability gains combined to outweighed the local objections and suggested harm to neighbouring properties. This is a fantastic result and we look forward to delivering the scheme in 2025. For the first time in recorded history, the world has surpassed the 1.5ºC threshold of warming for 12 months consecutively. 🌡 Breaching the 1.5ºC threshold does not mean that we have failed in our commitments to limit warming as this does not definitively represent us having transitioned permanently above this limit. However, it is certainly a wake-up call that underscores our previous inability to meet the targets we as an international community laid out for ourselves almost ten years ago. Climate adaptation is becoming a growing necessity in our toolkit to fight the worst effects of climate change. As targets are consistently missed with regards to emissions levels and the degree of warming, our new reality is one in which treating the effects of climate change and not necessarily the root cause will have to take a more central role. We therefore call on the new UK government, and all international legislators, to consider policies that will allow us to combat the worst effects of global warming, particularly in our lived environments. Read the latest article on our website that delves into what this breach means for the planet and for our political attempts to rein in rising temperatures. #climatechange #climatemitigation #climateadaptation #climateaction #climatesolutions https://lnkd.in/e8DZn3EH

It’s #NetZeroWeek – the official awareness week for the UK’s goal of reaching net zero by 2050. As a business, we invest in brown-to-green real estate development opportunities throughout the UK and Europe, meeting demand from SMEs for high-quality, sustainably refurbished London workspaces. Our Akoya portfolio is delivering green workspaces for London’s SMEs and, with a 750,000 sq ft portfolio and 160 tenants is aligning with science based targets. At our Queen’s Park project, Lonsdale Road has set a target to be London’s first ever net zero street by 2030: our rolling refurbishment programme achieves net zero in construction and has a commitment to offset 100% of upfront embodied carbon through local community recipients. You can read more about our approach to net zero at our website or reach out to @Jon Cochrane via LinkedIn for more information. #netzero #esg #sustainability #impact #feldbergUK #londonworkspace #akoya #sme #browntogreen

We are delighted to share our recent collaboration with LIFT futures on their innovative educational programme, Design Futures! This year, their programme offered a 4-week course at Capital City College Group Creative Skills Academy, where students engaged with local design agencies, including Love Design Studio, to gain practical work experience and enhance their portfolios. We set a graphic design brief focused on the circular economy in the built environment. The challenge was to illustrate the journey of a sustainable residential building in London, from architectural design to material sourcing, construction, in-use practices, and end-of-life scenarios. Our talented participants, Maryam Syed, Tingwei Xie, Jami Lee, and Joshua Asare-Asante, were guided by their tutor Bee Veronica M. from WITTY DITTY DESIGNS and impressed us with their creativity and dedication. Throughout the programme, we provided feedback and guidance, helping them refine their designs to align with industry standards. We are happy to share that at the end of the programme, we selected one exceptional student for an 8-week internship with Love Design Studio to further develop their practical skills in design. A huge thank you to LIFT futures for inviting us to be part of this inspiring initiative! The UK faces significant challenges in housing: construction lags behind demand, home ownership rates are declining, and rental prices are rising. With the general election on 4th July, housing reform is a key focus in party manifestos. At Love Design Studio, we are dedicated to addressing housing issues and are encouraged by the increased attention on reform. However, it’s vital that reforms also consider quality, affordability, and environmental impact. We've reviewed each party's manifesto to highlight key housing policy pledges and assess their potential for delivery and environmental implications. Here are a few more pictures from our Clerkenwell Design Week event in the HOP studio! We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to join us for the roundtable discussion. It was an insightful conversation with fellow workplace experts discussing how we can deliver physical spaces that support and enable inclusive cultures. And what have we discovered? As we continue to evolve and learn, designing for diversity and wellbeing is a journey. We'll be continuing this conversation at HOP to evolve how we can do this better for our clients and people occupying our spaces. A special thanks to Jake Matthews and Rupert Nahum at Resonics for helping us with our 'Unboxed Perspectives' acoustic installation, showing the beauty of not fitting in the box and bringing diverse perspectives to the workplace. If you haven't read through the roundtable roundup yet, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eyT5WzhN We all had a great time and hope you did too! | Sarah Bewers, Lewis Harman, Rosalind Lambert-Porter, Bolívar Marcon Pinheiro Machado, Philip Bentley, Andy Love, Sophia Major, Alice Inigo-Jones. #HOP #CDW2024 #InclusiveWorkplaces
