Crofters in North Uist and South Uist have praised our teams for their peatland restoration work, which has opened up new grazing areas while stabilising large areas of degraded peatland. Peatland is a major natural carbon sink. So, as a major land owner, we aim to restore up to 600 hectares across our own assets in Scotland, while also working to support other landowners. Our latest projects in the Outer Hebrides are helping to protect natural carbon stores in the peat, and reduce organic matter from washing into our drinking water supplies on the islands. 🌍💧 Here’s our stunning film - and watch out for some local, Gaelic cows! 🌞 We've completed work on a £300,000 solar project in Helensburgh which will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the town's Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) 🌞 🔋 Project Highlights: 👉Installation of 384 ground-mounted solar panels 👉Generation of 0.21 GWh of electricity annually (equivalent to boiling over 930,000 kettles! ) 👉Meeting 26% of the site's energy needs 👉Saving 43 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per year The project, led by Scottish Water Horizons and delivered by R&A Group LTD, is another step towards decarbonising our vital water treatment processes. 🌍💧 READ: https://lnkd.in/eiThQPTT

Change starts with water and last night, change started in Glasgow with £236,774 raised for clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Big thanks to Sara and the Prosper team for hosting this evening. CEO Alex did a great job articulating the excellent work that colleagues at Scottish Water do- day in day out - to bring us all the best quality drinking water that we all love as well as deal with the waste water that we all generate…. SW’s Mark Hunter gave a great summary when doing the thanks too! Lots of positive opportunities that Scottish Water is chasing down as well as grappling with the big issues that are challenging us all - climate change now ever present. Key feedback from the evening - how interesting the water sector is and how it can be a key enabler in so many areas - and I can vouch for that!
