Yesterday evening, Chris Shirling-Rooke MBE, Chief Executive and Scarlett Black, Head of Programmes had the pleasure of attending Isle of Man Ship Registry's 40th anniversary celebration at Trinity House. That’s a wrap on the SMI Conference 2024! Over the past two days, we had the privilege of hosting 30 speakers across four sessions, driving discussions critical to advancing the UK maritime industry with the event expertly steered throughout by Peter Collinson as Conference Chair. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in Birmingham. We hope the event provided valuable insights and networking opportunities, helping to foster stronger connections among forward-thinking maritime professionals. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are vital to unlocking the potential of the UK maritime sector and addressing its future challenges. The British Ports Association Chair Mike Sellers, Director of Policy Mark Simmonds and CEO Richard Ballantyne OBE were pleased to meet with Mike Kane, UK #Maritime Minister at the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom this morning. Lots on the agenda for the new government including the role #ports play, new funding mechanisms, planning policy, growth, #decarbonisation, #offshoreenergy and maritime strategy.

Celebrating the arrival of BG Orange into Tees Dock yesterday 🎉 As part of its maiden voyage this 170m container vessel berthed at Tees Dock. The BG Orange uses a state-of-the-art scrubber to catch CO2 and sulphur particles, as well as having increased capacity for cargo carrying up to 1,380 containers which will result in a lower carbon footprint per container. It is also equipped to handle biomethanol, allowing it to be powered by sustainable fuel. It is our privilege to welcome this vessel to Tees and great to see our partners working towards sustainability goals, ensuring prosperity for future generations to come. A productive and engaging start to the SMI Conference 2024! The morning featured insightful presentations from the National Shipbuilding Office, Paul Sheerin, Rebecca Green CEng MIET, and Charlotte Wood, who focused on the critical steps needed to build a successful and competitive shipbuilding industry in the UK. A key takeaway from this morning's session was the importance of collaboration between government and industry, highlighting a strong commitment to driving progress together.
