Last night, in Southampton, we welcomed 300 staff and customers to the Port’s annual charity quiz. The event, organised by our local Social Team, raised almost £7000 in support of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). The quiz was hosted at City Cruise Terminal by ABP General Manager Tom Dynes and Solent Stevedores’ Commercial Manager, Ray Facey. HIOWAA relies on donations and fundraising to operate, as it receives no government funding or grants. The charity provides a vital service across Hampshire and the Solent, typically responding to seven missions each day. They provide a critical care team and equipment on-site, saving crucial minutes to ensure patients receive the necessary treatment, often on the roadside. We received lots of support for the event and want to thank everyone involved, including Carlisle Support Services for providing their cleaning services at no charge, SBS Event Productions Ltd for their brilliant audio and visual planning and equipment, Solent Stevedores Ltd and JOHN H.WHITAKER (TANKERS) LIMITED for providing raffle prizes and the volunteers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. #fundraising #community #getinvolved

The Port of Barrow, which is owned and operated by ABP, to be designated as 'Royal'! Julian Walker, Chief Commercial Officer and Regional Director at ABP, shared his thoughts on today's announcement from Prime Minister Keir Starmer that His Majesty The King will confer the ‘Royal’ title to the Port of Barrow: "We are incredibly proud that the Port of Barrow is to be given 'Royal' status. This prestigious recognition underscores the vital role that both the port and the town of Barrow play in national security. "Beyond its contributions to national security, the port is also playing a pivotal role as an enabler of the energy transition and, underlying this, providing good jobs, investment and prosperity for Barrow and the surrounding communities. We are proud that ABP colleagues in the Humber played a central role in the response to the major vessel collision between the Stena Immaculate and cargo ship Solong in the North Sea last Monday. Our Marine team, and in particular the pilot launch crews and VTS teams, were in the front line of the response. Despite the challenging conditions, including fog and the immediate danger posed by the fire, the launch crews' dedication and professionalism in their immediate response to the initial collision, alongside those of the offshore support vessels, ensured the safety of 36 crew members. The VTS teams, who provide the ‘air traffic control’ equivalent for vessels in the Humber and adjacent sea area, have been instrumental in providing the crucial coordination of a busy seascape in a fast developing crisis despite the incident happening outside ABP’s Statutory Harbour Authority geographical area. The marine teams have been backed by the support of their land based colleagues, from Engineering to Communications teams and from Regional Director to Receptionist. The collective actions exemplify the spirit of teamwork, professionalism and resilience of ABP colleagues and the wider maritime community. #Humber #Safety #Proud #Maritime #ABP #Ports
