After struggling with her own mental health and losing her sister, Cath, to suicide, nominating PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide for a Foundation grant was an easy choice for our Health Coach, Helen Denny. As a trustee of the charity, Helen is a strong advocate of open and inclusive conversations to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health conditions. As we look ahead to World Mental Health Day and this year's theme, prioritising mental health in the workplace, we recognise that it's a conversation we should all be involved in. According to the Mental Health Foundation, 15% of employees in the UK are estimated to have a mental health condition and in 2022, poor mental health was the fifth most common reason for work-related absence. Through our delivery of the Access to Work Mental Health Support Service, we aim to address these issues with nine months of cost-free private and personalised support to help people stay in or return to work. In the lead up to World Mental Health Day, we understand that it’s not just a day for those that live with a mental health condition. Today Demos has launched a new report, supported by Maximus, addressing a lack of awareness of available employment support among disabled people and those with health conditions. It finds that at least one million people not currently in work would benefit from accessing disability or health-related employment support, yet the current system can be difficult to access and confusing to navigate.   The report identifies a number of critical ‘engagement points’ as opportunities to refer individuals to the appropriate support programmes at the right time, working on the principle ‘the earlier the better’. Doing so could add 130,000 people to the UK's workforce and add £5bn to GDP.   Thank you to the dozens of local and national organisations who took part in roundtables and shared their views on creating a more integrated, person-centred system. 

The health and social care sector continues to grapple with significant challenges, including high vacancy rates, limited career progression and lack of standardised training. Despite 1.5 million people working in the sector, 30% of employees have left in the past year, highlighting the urgent need for solutions.    Drawing on decades of experience, we’ve been partnering with more than 190 local and national employers in the sector to reduce the burden of recruitment.     From national businesses like Cera Care to local employers like Personalised Care, our dedicated teams are on hand to support, no matter the size or need of the business.    Find out how we've been supporting the sector in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/eU5fK22y     #Employability #Care #Healthcare
