We recently welcomed the team from Homes England to Sydney Grange, our ground-breaking new affordable retirement community in Failsworth, Greater Manchester. Take a look at the video to find out more👇🏼📹 https://lnkd.in/ekdNnxeK The development is the first to be built in full using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and sold exclusively using Homes England's Older Persons Shared Ownership (OPSO) scheme, driving affordability and opening up the benefits of retirement living for many more older people in and around Oldham and Greater Manchester when it opens early next year. It’s estimated that there are around 3 million older people in the UK who don’t have the equity to move into housing suitable to their needs. Our programme of affordable retirement communities will deliver hundreds of high quality homes that meet an unmet need in the retirement sector The MMC scheme was built using Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) panels, built by Remagin in their Leeds factory and then assembled on-site, helping the teams to build faster, greener and more affordably. Homes England provided grant funding to support both the MMC and OPSO aspects of the development. Shahi Islam, Director of Affordable Housing at Homes England, who led the visit, said “McCarthy Stone's Failsworth development is an excellent example of high-quality and affordable housing for older people. We are pleased to support it through our older persons shared ownership scheme. We look forward to supporting this model and seeing it progress.” Patrick Balemans, Head of Division, Etex New Ways and Remagin, said “This partnership is a shining example of how MMC can be used to deliver high quality, affordable housing at pace and scale, a primary objective for the Government”. #retirementliving #affordablehousing #mmc #opso

The development in this Dorset market town is McCarthy Stone's first fully integrated retirement village, and features 1 and 2 bed apartments as well as bungalows, which have been designed around a central village green to create a true community focus for homeowners. Customers can benefit from an on-site bistro, enhanced communal spaces, landscaped gardens, a wellness suite and games area. Last week we welcomed Manchester MP Lucy Powell to the new McCarthy Stone retirement community in her constituency at Sydney Grange in Failsworth, Oldham. The Labour MP, and Leader of the House of Commons and Cabinet Minister, joined Business Development Manager, Declan Fishwick, to take a closer look at the development and tour both the communal facilities the show apartments, and find out more about the how the low-maintenance, energy efficient retirement apartments can support the over 60s to live life to the fullest. To make retiring in style more accessible, properties at Sydney Grange are exclusively available as part of a government-backed scheme in conjunction with Homes England. Older Persons Shared Ownership (OPSO), provides a helping hand by reducing the upfront cost of a new retirement property. Sydney Grange is proving a popular choice for Oldham locals, with nearly half already reserved and first occupants expected to move in later this year. Lucy said "It was a pleasure visiting Sydney Grange in Failsworth today. Affordable developments like this provide a welcoming, supportive community for retirees to live independently with peace of mind." Declan added “There are not currently enough suitable homes in the UK to support our ageing population, and many older people can’t access the support and the care they need. Our Failsworth development is aimed specifically at enhancing the availability of more affordable housing in and around Manchester so retirees can enjoy the lifestyle they’ve dreamed of without having to pay the full price.” The Government has also confirmed it is looking to expand the provision of housing for older people and recently published new research which showed retirement housing results in improved levels of happiness, wellbeing and life satisfaction. #affordablehousing #retirementcommunities #retirementliving #sharedownership

Christopher Parsons and the Marketing team have enjoyed meeting local retirees at sales events at the local football club, as well as making some great community donations including to the local Men's Shed! Well done to the sales team - Chas Malek, Kelly Murch and Julie Mansbridge - on your efforts to build a thriving retirement living scheme for our customers. Great work from all of the Southern team making sure that The Curlews is ready for new homeowners from day one. This week our Director of Communications Paul Teverson has been talking to MPs and Ministers at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. Key topics were the need to increase the focus on older people as part of the current consultation on the NPPF, the important role of Homes England’s Older People’s Shared Ownership (OPSO) scheme and the vital work of Prof. Julienne Elizabeth Meyer's report by the Older People’s Housing Taskforce. Take a look:
The RHG has been at the Labour party conference this week talking to MPs and Ministers about the important role of retirement housing and the need to increase the provision of high quality housing, care and support options for older people. Thank you to Florence Eshalomi, the new chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee, who was one of the many MPs to pop by. We showed off our new interactive map of existing provision of retirement housing, which also notes how much supply needs to increase by just to keep pace with the ageing population. We look forward to continuing engaging MPs and Ministers on this important debate.
