This morning, Tim Brew and Holly Skyrme ran a META workshop with SPARC pupils from Ysgol Caer Elen, Haverfordwest High VC School, and Ysgol Bro Gwaun at Pembrokeshire College. Pupils were challenged to design and construct a scaled-down model of the META floating wind platform, putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test. With expert guidance from Michelle Hitches FMAAT MAPM GMC (Apollo), Sean Evans (Blue Gem Wind), Rhys Morgan, and Rob Hillier (PCC), teams earned tokens based on their designs - allowing them to ‘purchase’ materials and tools to bring their ideas to life. A huge thanks to all involved, including Hayley Williams, for supporting the next generation of renewable energy innovators. Next up: reviewing and refining their platforms to improve stability before putting their designs to the test in the water! #SPARC #STEM #FloatingWind #MarineRenewables Floventis Energy, Ledwood Mechanical Engineering Ltd, Blue Gem Wind, RWE, Port of Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire County Council

Wales' national test facility - creating a Haven for marine energy.
About us
With eight pre-consented sites located in and around the Milford Haven Waterway, META aims to help developers deploy, de-risk and develop their marine energy technologies to harness the enormous energy of the ocean further afield. META is funded by the European Regional Development Fund through Welsh Government, alongside the Coastal Communities Fund. The project is managed by Marine Energy Wales, the national industry body for Wales and is administered by Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, a Community Interest Company that works to protect and enhance the Pembrokeshire coast.

Earlier this month, we tested 'stability improvement' modifications designed by Pembroke Dock Community School on a scale floating wind platform at Rudders Boatyard Ltd. 🌊 The platform itself was designed by the Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence and fabricated by Pembrokeshire College Apprentices and is a great asset for taking ideas from the classroom to real-world testing. We used Sofar Ocean Spotter buoys to capture and compare displacement measurements. Read Tim's blog to find out more 👇
How did that get there? When our Programme Manager Tim Brew was 10, he loved The Great Egg Race, Tomorrow’s World, and those Blue Peter competitions where you sent in an experiment for astronauts to test in space. The idea that a young person like him could ask a question or come up with an idea that the experts hadn’t thought of yet was genuinely exciting! PCF doesn't have a space station, but Tim can see our META: Marine Energy Test Area from his desk at work. 🌊 Follow the link below to hear about the collaboration that saw the Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence design a scale platform, which was fabricated by Pembrokeshire College Apprentices, before being used in experiments designed by Pembroke Dock Community School pupils in the Marine Energy Test Area. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eBF_eEty This project was made possible by the support of the Skills and Talent programme and the Port of Milford Haven. #STEM #renewables #YMôrANi #TheSeaAndUs #OceanLiteracy

🌊Morlais yn torri tir newydd | Game changer for tidal energy⚡ Bydd canfyddiadau o'n Prosiect Ymchwil i Nodweddau Morol yn cael ei gynnwys y Gyfnewidfa Data Morol, sef casgliad o ddata arolwg diwydiant morol sy'n cael ei ddefnyddion yn rhyngwladol. Dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf, rydym wedi casglu data ar adar a mamaliaid morol ym mharth Morlais i sicrhau bod y tyrbinau'n cael eu lleoli'n ddiogel. Bydd y data hwn yn cael ei ddefnyddio i ddylanwadu datblygiadau ynni morol yn y dyfodol a helpu i leihau'r effaith ar yr amgylchedd naturiol.
