About us
The Supergen ORE Hub is an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded programme which brings together academia, industry, policymakers and the general public to support and accelerate the development of offshore wind, wave and tidal technology for the benefit of society. The Hub is led by Professor Deborah Greaves OBE, Head of the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics at the University of Plymouth, and includes the following Co-Directors; Professor Beth Scott (University of Aberdeen), Henry Jeffrey (University of Edinburgh), Dr Phillipp Thies (University of Exeter), Professor James Gibert (University of Hull), Professor Tim Stallard (University of Manchester), Professor Byron Byrne and Professor Richard Willden (University of Oxford), Professor David White (University of Southampton), Professor Feargal Brennan (University of Strathclyde), and Professor Xiaowei Zhao (University of Warwick).

Connecting cutting-edge research with real-world industry applications, our Masterclasses serve as a platform to connect academia and the renewable energy sector. In our upcoming Masterclass, we’re pleased to welcome Dr. James C. Hastie from Blackfish Engineering Design Ltd, a marine solutions consultancy. Dr. Hastie will discuss how the NDC Marine Simulator was utilised to model Blackfish's quick connection design - as part of a Supergen ORE Hub Flex Fund project - assessing its performance under various offshore conditions. The Masterclass will feature practical demonstrations in the 300-degree immersive Marine Simulator, with participants having the opportunity to design and test their simulations as well as work with some of the models created in collaboration with Blackfish, manoeuvring them in the Simulator for real-time testing. Learn via a wide range of practical activities at this state-of-the-art facility, performing real-time simulations of offshore operations and technologies under the influence of varying conditions including weather, waves, wind, currents and tides.
