MIPIM 25 On a yearly basis we discuss the merits of forking out to go to MIPIM (it's not cheap) but every time Mike Anderson and I come back with a whole of heap of ideas for new business having forged new connections and re-established old ones too. Conferences are what you make of them - plan, work hard, leave space to network and learn, be open to new introductions - you're also allowed to have a little fun along the way (despite what some people might say!). It was a pleasure to participate in a couple of interactive sessions and panels so thanks in particular to Anna Kulik and Danny Crump for inviting me along. My takeaways from this year: 😀 There is optimism and it does seem to be coupled with a real determination to make things happen. 🔓 Local Authorities do genuinely want to find ways to unlock sustainable regeneration with the private sector and this is being replicated. 🚘 The roles MHCLG and Homes England are going to be critical to drive and unlock the pipeline of housing required to get anywhere near government targets. 🥴 Retail is back! Its no longer toxic although some people still need some convincing! 💡 There is a huge amount of innovation across all area of development - its always great to see and hear how other developers are approaching development in different countries. The learning is never ending... 🌲 ESG is being taking seriously by all stakeholders and you'll be left stranded if your developments aren't best in class. Exciting progress in Huddersfield! 🚀 Last week, Alex Hyams and Stuart Harris visited Our Cultural Heart, the transformative regeneration scheme reshaping Huddersfield centre. Milligan is securing the operator for a 25,000 sq ft food hall within a beautifully repurposed Grade II listed building. We’re thrilled to be working alongside Turner & Townsend and have recently appointed Smith Young as the leasing agent. Looking up at these magnificent paraboloid structures, it's easy to imagine the future of this cultural destination—a digitally enabled library, music venue, gallery, and vibrant public realm all coming together to create something extraordinary.
