Main construction work on the first phase of Our Cultural Heart began this week 🏗️ This work includes the demolition of some sections of the former Queensgate Market building. Core Listed sections of the building will be fully refurbished as the site’s transformation into a vibrant new food hall and library accelerates😋 As part of the significant site preparation, BAM UK & Ireland completed the ‘soft stripping of all non-structural and internal fixtures and fittings, also removing the former market stalls and asbestos. Updated plans for the second phase of #OurCulturalHeart have now been submitted by Kirklees Council. The final, revised plans concentrate on a flagship new museum and art gallery in the former library building on Princess Alexandra Walk 🖼️ The designs by architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBStudios) will see the historic four-storey building become a flagship museum and art gallery, helping to attract more visitors to the town and creating exciting opportunities for local businesses and the region’s culture sector. Cllr Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Finance and Regeneration, said: “This is an exciting moment for the Our Cultural Heart programme, as construction begins on the new food hall and library this month, and plans are now in place for the second phase of the development.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dm5piTEB

With the hoardings now installed, here’s a reminder of what’s to come at the former Queensgate Market site 🤩 🍔 The former market will be transformed into a vibrant new food hall, with direct access to… 📚 A brand new glass-fronted library with co-working spaces, a local history area and much more. 🎭 Framed by the new library and food hall will be an attractive new public square, providing an outdoor centrepiece for the whole town centre. The hoardings are now up! 🌟 Over the coming weeks they will be painted and signage will be installed around the site. A significant step in the transformation of Huddersfield town centre. 💓

Great news that these vital works are going ahead. The Huddersfield Ring Road is a vital gateway into Huddersfield town centre this work will enable the exciting work in Queensgate Market to go ahead! 💙
