With over 70 million hits a year, we know the National Gas Data Portal is essential to industry and analysts alike, which is why we are excited to announce that our Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are now live: https://lnkd.in/e5VUQGTh When using the app, REST APIs act like a ‘data waiter’, searching for and bringing you the data you need with just a few clicks. We’re working on even more features and enhancements including: 🔍 Search Everywhere 🖌️ Customisation 🤖 A helpful Chatbot If you want to be the first to know, or be invited to testing and feedback sessions, join our Gas Data Portal community here: https://lnkd.in/e-ukmkVN
About us
National Gas is one organisation, formed of three businesses – National Gas Transmission, National Gas Services and National Gas Metering. We own and operate the National Transmission System (NTS), taking gas from its various entry points to the country (whether domestic, liquefied natural gas, or interconnectors from continental Europe) and delivering it to where it is needed. Without us, gas has no mechanism to enter Britain and eventually reach the end user, whether power stations, energy intensive industries, households or for export. We are responsible for transporting gas to more than half a million businesses, 23 million homes and more than 30 power stations. The current NTS comprises nearly 5,000 miles of high-pressure pipes, driven by a fleet of over 60 gas compressors. We employ more than 1,800 people directly, while indirectly we support hundreds of thousands of jobs in industries which rely on gas for their operations. Without gas, these businesses cannot keep the economy moving and their future growth will be at risk.

🌄 Last weekend, 26 National Gas employees and friends took on the challenge of conquering Kinder Scout – the highest peak in the Peak District – in support of our chosen charity partner, Barnardo's! 🌟 Together, we raised around £500 to support Barnardo’s and help make a difference for children in our communities. 💚 We’re excited to make these charity hikes an annual tradition, with hopes of bringing even more employees, friends, and support to raise thousands for those in need across the country. 🏞️👣

🙌 We're delighted to have hosted Linsey Farnsworth MP for the unveiling of our refurbished National Gas Services office in Ambergate. It was great to talk about our continued investment into the Amber Valley constituency, the welcoming of apprentices to our training centre as well as the key services our Ambergate site provides for the maintenance of our network, ensuring energy security. We’re looking forward to a hydrogen future and to support the Government’s ambitions for net zero and the take-up of green skills. 🌍🌱 Thank you to Nick Sides, Matty McBride, Kevin Paine, Carmine Greusard-Deffeuille, Shivani Nana, Emma Bellis and all others on site and behind the scenes who made this visit a success! ✨ #SecuringBritainsEnergy

🙌 Welcoming Students to Our Security Team! 🔐 Over the summer, the Security team at National Gas hosted 5 students studying for their GCSEs/A-Levels on a 3-day work experience week, to learn all about business security. Colleagues from across the Security team delivered a range of sessions on topics ranging from Cyber Defence to a security breach roleplay in GNCC. Alongside this valuable and rare insight into how the Security team at National Gas protects our business, people, and infrastructure, the students also got a look into the wider world of net zero and the energy transition, as well as an in-depth talk into our early careers pathways. The experience was a great chance for our people to meet the young minds who may be filling the roles of the future to help us meet net zero, and the students themselves had a fantastic opportunity to learn about not just us here at National Gas, but the working world as a whole. 🌍 Our next formal work experience programme is running in February half-term 2025. Keep an eye out to see how we are collaborating with our future leaders. 👀 👏 Huge thank you to Kiera Mae Pullen, Polly Cameron BEM MBA MCGI and all involved in making this week a success!

🙌 We’re very proud to announce that National Gas has officially signed the Armed Forces Covenant. This significant step underscores our commitment to the entire armed forces community, including colleagues who have served our country and those who continue to serve as reservists. We're dedicated to ensuring they're treated fairly, supported appropriately, and feel truly included whilst also being a part of National Gas. 🖋Our COO, Matthew Steele, signed the Covenant on behalf of National Gas, with Lt Col Duncan Southall representing the Armed Forces. Matt highlighted the invaluable skills and experiences our ex-armed forces colleagues bring to our work, and pledged our support for employees whose lives may be being impacted by close family members who continue to serve. The event was attended by colleagues who have previously served in the Armed Forces, as well as people from across the business who were keen to show their support. We're committed to ensuring this pledge positively impacts our colleagues, business, and communities now and into the future. 🚀

National Gas reposted this
It's not every day you're in front of camera, but this is exactly what we do to ensure we are prepared, alongside our colleagues at @the National energy system operator, in the unlikely event of a nation-wide energy supply loss. Over three days this month we've undertaken our annual emergency exercise at National Gas which simulates a gas supply emergency and how our teams would respond in such a circumstance. It's a responsibility we take very seriously and, as part of the exercise, we undertook a mock press conference to the nation alongside my colleagues Paul James Sullivan IEng MIGEM (representing the Network Emergency Coordinator), Jake Tudge and Craig Dyke FIET from the NESO. My many thanks to all the teams at National Gas, NESO, the NEC, across the industry and government, who played their role in organising and delivering this important exercise. Absolutely inspiring discussions at the Google Cloud Summit! Our CTO Darren Curley spoke at the "Navigating AI for UK Innovation" panel, alongside Tara Brady Google and Guy Duncan OVO and chaired by Beth Rigby. The energy sector has a long history, and Darren discussed what we’re up to at National Gas that proves that constant innovation is key to our sector’s future: 🚀 We’re delivering energy security for today by providing up to 60% of electricity during peak winter demands, while developing a hydrogen transmission network for clean energy tomorrow 🚀 We’re reallocating assets to link the major UK industrial centres together, allowing them to use or transmit hydrogen directly 🚀 We have our Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) initiative, aiming to store and recompress carbon to ultimately deliver it back into the transmission network – such as out of our St Fergus Terminal We're proud to be at the forefront of this discussion, balancing innovation and regulation to shape a sustainable future for the UK. #SecuringBritainsEnergy
