Last Friday, we had the pleasure of attending the Newbury Soup Kitchen Dragon's Breakfast Meeting, to talk about our recent SleepOut in aid of the charity. Emma Gentry, Head of Marketing and Communications at the Society, updated the Dragon's on the importance of fundraising events like this one, how the evening went and our incredible fundraising total. Over the last year we have received funding from the Greenham Trust, Newbury Building Society and the JD Foundation Women and Girls grant to run 15 workshops in primary and secondary schools in West Berkshire. We were able to run 10 primary school sessions for Years 4, 5 and 6 and 5 secondary sessions for a cohort of Year 7's. We ran sessions for just girls on their own but also some mixed sessions where the Year 5 and 6 boys joined in too. Every pupil was given a goodie bag containing a range of disposable products, a wet bag, a reusable period pad and a pair of period pants. These were free for the young pupil to take home with them in the hope they would consider reusable period products when their periods start or switch to them from disposables if they already have their period. Whilst the boys who joined the sessions don't need the products, they were all keen to take them home for their Mums and their sisters. Every session was a joy to deliver and we had some amazing feedback from both the pupils and the staff. There was so much positive feedback to chose from but our absolute favourites were: "Thank you so much! It's the most informative and inclusive period education session I've seen and the goody bags were fabulous. We would be thrilled to welcome you back next year." "I quite liked how she made me feel less embarrassed about what was coming with puberty as she knew all the answers to my questions, I liked learning about the products." "She knew a lot about periods!" We are incredibly proud of how much impact we managed to achieve with such a limited budget. Caroline could see the difference she was making in the classroom as the sessions unfolded and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who funded this piece of work and we hope they can share in our sense of achievement, knowing that there are young people in West Berkshire now better educated on, and better prepared for, their periods. #periodeducationforall #westberkshire #knowyourperiod #periodtalk #periodeducation #menstruationmatters #periodpositive

Last weekend, volunteers from the Society slept out for one night to raise money for our head office charity partner, Newbury Soup Kitchen. The team were joined by other supporters of the charity and Newbury Soup Kitchen themselves, who not only slept out, but provided much-needed warm drinks and food from the Newbury Soup Kitchen van. With your support, we have tripled our fundraising target and raised over £7,000 for the charity! Thank you to everyone who donated, this will make a huge difference to the support that Newbury Soup Kitchen is able to provide to local vulnerable people. Earlier this month, new rules were introduced about reimbursing victims of Authorised Push Payment (APP) scams. But, what is an APP scam?! APP scams happen when someone tricks you into sending money or sharing personal details under false pretences, often pressuring you to act before you’ve had time to think. These new changes mean stronger protection for most victims, with each claim of APP scams being fully investigated. Want to know more? Head over to our website for more information about APP scams and how these rules impact you: https://lnkd.in/ew-3NFGT Take Five to Stop Fraud

Card fraud is when a criminal steals personal information from your credit or debit card or steals the card itself. What to look out for 👀: - You see an abnormal transaction on your bank statement – call the bank if you know you didn’t approve this. - Your credit card is unexpectedly declined – if this happens, contact your bank immediately. - You receive bills, invoices or receipts that you weren’t expecting – call the company who sent it and check why. #TakeFive #Cardfraud
