Michael Bonte-Friedheim, NextEnergy Group's Founding Partner and CEO shared his insights in a keynote interview with Infrastructure Investor last week. The piece offers an in-depth analysis of the future of solar within North America, predicting continued rapid growth in the region, despite political uncertainties. Within the article, Michael comments: "Power consumption in the US is expected to increase by about 5 percent over the next two or three years. Data centres and artificial intelligence are a huge driver of that power demand growth, along with electrification of transport and other applications. There’s a fundamental need to have new power generation capacity coming on stream to meet that growth in electricity demand." NextEnergy Capital is pleased to see the re-launch of the #solartaskforce. Ross Grier, NextEnergy Capital's Chief Operating Officer is a key member of the Governments Solar Taskforce, focusing on accelerating the delivery of solar energy across the country. In line with the government’s ambitions to significantly increase solar power generation by 2030, the taskforce will build on its strong foundations, and has committed to delivering an updated solar roadmap within the coming months. To inform this work, this first meeting focused on expanding solar energy initiatives, including actions to develop ethical, resilient and innovative supply chains and to ensure that a skilled and properly resourced workforce is in place to scale up solar across the UK. | #NextisNow | #SolarTaskForce | #UKEnergySecurity | #NetZeroTransition |
The government's Solar Taskforce has been relaunched to help us achieve clean energy by 2030. Solar is one of the cheapest sources of power to build and operate - but how do solar panels work? Here's Ed Crossland from Oxford Photovoltaics with more 📽️👇 https://lnkd.in/ey8U7HRP

NextEnergy Capital is pleased to announce that NextPower UK ESG has signed one of the UK’s largest solar sleeved Power Purchase Agreements to date. The sleeved PPA is a 20-year inflation-linked contracted revenue agreement that covers 90% of the electricity and any associated Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates (“REGOs”) generated by Llanwern Solar Farm, currently the UK’s largest operating solar farm with an installed capacity of 75MW. Llanwern Solar Farm, located in Newport, Wales, was one of NPUK ESG’s first seed assets with an installed capacity of 75MW, the equivalent of powering an estimated 20,606 homes per year, remains the largest solar farm constructed and energised in the UK to date, covering 260 acres. Michael Bonte-Friedheim, NextEnergy Group's CEO and Founder, said: “NextPower UK ESG is one of the UK’s leading private solar funds that is playing a crucial part in the UK’s transition to Net Zero, as well as increasing the UK’s energy security through independence. This 20-year sleeved PPA fits perfectly into NextPower UK ESG’s contracted revenue strategy and demonstrates the future growth opportunity that solar serves in providing long-term power generation to both utilities and corporates as they increasingly look towards renewable energy sources as part of their decarbonisation journey.” David Riley, Head of Carbon Neutrality at Anglian Water Services, stated: “Anglian Water is committed to being a carbon neutral business to the benefit of customers and the environment across our region. This leading and innovative structure has enabled renewable energy to be consumed with a direct line of sight to the physical solar asset, made possible with the dedication and shared expertise from teams within NextEnergy Capital, EDF (UK), SSE plc and Anglian Water Services Water.” Paul Barwell, Head of Energy Sales at NextEnergy Capital, quoted: “This innovative 20-year sleeved PPA locks in long-term, inflation-linked contracted revenues for NextPower UK ESG investors. We continue to see a growing opportunity for companies in the UK who have made ESG commitments to decarbonise their energy use, to work with knowledgeable managers such as NextEnergy Capital, to help companies achieve their targets towards a Net-Zero economy.” Read the full PR through the link: https://lnkd.in/d93G5UN | #Decarbonisation | #UKRenewables | #EnergyTransition | #NextPowerUK | #PPAs | #EnergySecurity | #CleanEnergy | #Llanwern | #NextisNow |

The closure of Ratcliffe-on-Soar marks the end of nearly 150 years of coal-powered electricity generation in the UK. This monumental achievement marks the beginning of a new age of domestic, secure, affordable, and clean energy generation. The UK government’s commitment to phasing out coal by 2025 has been realised ahead of schedule. This closure is a testament to the efforts of policymakers, industry leaders, and environmental advocates who have made this vision a reality. This historical closure underscores the critical role that renewable energy sources, such as solar play in ensuring a sustainable and resilient energy system. #NextisNow
Today is the day the UK becomes the first G7 country to completely phase out coal power Since opening "Jumbo", the world's first coal power plant in 1882, the UK's coal plants have burned through a whopping 4.6bn tonnes of coal, emitting 10.4GtCO2 – which is more than most countries have ever released Here's the story of how that all came to an end: https://lnkd.in/ev_6mE64
