The need for new homes is well documented across the UK and getting the balance right between the impact of building new homes and the environment is one to be managed carefully. If we’re to answer local housing need, a new approach is required that addresses nutrient neutrality and environmental impacts. At Otterpool Park our outline planning consent includes infrastructure such as a new wastewater treatment plant and wetland areas. We are committed to delivering a sustainable community for all, built on garden town principles. That will not change. Yesterday’s King’s Speech confirmed the government is on a mission to drive through reforms it says are vital to growing the UK economy. As expected, ministers want to accelerate the number of homes being built and speed up the time it takes for decisions on key infrastructure projects. We know from experience just how complex this can be and how delays can occur throughout the planning process for even the best thought through schemes. The new garden town at Otterpool Park is a great example of the kind of high-quality, sustainable, community-minded development that these reforms should help to bring forward in higher numbers. The new planning and infrastructure bill intends to streamline the process for critical infrastructure and reform rules on compulsory purchase of land. Children from a local primary school visited Otterpool Park last week to find out more about nature conservation and the habitats that can be found on our site. Experts from our consultants Stantec shared their findings about the habitats that can be found on our site and ran activities to learn about how, as well as providing homes for local people, we will protect and restore the homes of local wildlife as part of creating the new garden town.
