Blue skies on site yesterday as we near the completion of Phase 2 at The Press.
There are few more exciting things as a a property developer than hearing the words “Mastic man’s in next week”. This rarely spotted but much vaunted mythical creature heralds the impending completion of a massive amount of work by all the other, less celebrated construction professionals… The light at the end of the tunnel. Mastic man… we salute you! (And the sparkle cleaners!). Mastic or not, Phase 2 at The Press, Cambridge looked stunning in the sun today as we head towards completion of this 65,000 sq ft new lab and office building in a couple of weeks. A great job being done by 8build and the project team at Owers Warwick Architects , Elliott Wood , Hoare Lea, Bidwells and CB3 Consulting LTD on behalf of Mission Street and BGO

HANDOVER: Last week we handed over our latest project at Wolfson College, Cambridge. Over the past year we have worked collaboratively alongside Bidwells Owers Warwick Architects TSA Riley Sharman Grimwade Ltd KEITH WINTON DESIGN LTD and Smith and Wallwork to provide a new commercial kitchen along with new bar and servery for the college. This complex and challenging project entailed the retention and reuse of the existing building, a two storey extension to enlarge the kitchen, change to a AHU instead of gas, opening up of the servery to the kitchen for visibility and interactivity, improved access to the building through new back-of-house lift and new commercial kitchen to better cater for the users of the college. #extension #refurbishment #servery #bar #commercialkitchen #college #wolfsoncollege #coulsonbuildinggroup

Thank you Colin Brown. It is a pleasure to work with Mission Street and the team on such inspiring projects. Fingers crossed Inventa is another BCO Reuse and Refurbishment Winner!
This afternoon Richard Warwick of Owers Warwick Architects and I toured a panel of judges around www.inventaoxford.com following its shortlisting for the BCO Reuse and Refurbishment award. We also toured another really exciting occupier earlier on in the day who loved the building. I'm not normally fussed about awards (although we've won this particular one before! 😉) but the real joy of the day was listening to Richard describing the design journey, and picking out his favourite architectural details with such enthusiasm and love. Working with design partners who care passionately about the buildings and places they create is one of the great joys of what we do and Richard is one of those partners. In Paul Brackstone of Nucleome Therapeutics we have the most hospitable anchor occupier who knows the building like the back of his hand and graciously tolerated our intrusions into the labs and office he worked so hard to plan and deliver. He may be the best letting agent in Oxford! Our building manager Geoff has just been awarded a special commendation from OCS because of the incredible feedback from tenants and visitors to Inventa about his work. We're lucky to have found him. Great buildings. Passionate people. Great science (and now great coffee!). Today was a great day!

We are delighted that Inventa, Oxford, our recently completed project for Mission Street, has been shortlisted for a British Council for Offices Regional Award in the Refurbished/Recycled Work place category. The shortlisting is great recognition of the impressive transformation, repurposing a dark redundant retail shed into a light filled and inspiring work space. Thanks to the whole team for helping bring this building back to life. We look forward to welcoming the judges in March! An amazing turnout for the 2025 inaugural tour and talk for British Council for Offices East Anglia. Today we visited the very impressive Optic building in Cambridge. Excellent to see British Land driving design quality and high sustainability targets and these being superbly met by Ed Hayden and his team at Scott Brownrigg. Like all great projects they had a great supporting team that included CB3 Consulting LTD , Stace SDC, Ramboll and a multitude of others. A great start to the year for BCO East Anglia!

It was exciting to receive the wonderful photos of the now completed refurbishment of Vinery Road from the very talented Richard Fraser. He’ll be back once the Corten has turn orange, but recording the weathering process should make for an interesting set of images. Thanks to: Simon Gusterson Tyrone Bowen P. B. Slightly windswept start to a fantastic day of visits to some of the wonderful buildings we’ve shortlisted for this year’s Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards. A brilliantly arranged programme, undertaken on foot and in a coach, was orchestrated to the minute by Charlotte Howe-McCartin. I’m already looking forward to the second round next week! #cambridgecitycouncil #designawards #greatercambridgedesignandconstructionawards
