Oxford Nanopore Technologies
Biotechnology Research
Our goal is to enable the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere.
About us
Our goal is to enable the analysis of anything, anywhere, by anyone. We have developed the world’s first and only nanopore DNA and RNA sequencing platform. It’s a new generation of sequencing technology — the only one to offer: scalability to portable or ultra-high throughput formats, real-time data delivery, and the ability to elucidate rich biological data. We are aiming to disrupt the way that biological analyses are currently performed, and open up new applications that have a profound, positive impact on society. Our devices offer real-time analysis, for rapid insights, in fully scalable formats — from pocket to population scale — and the technology is being used in more than 100 countries worldwide. Founded in 2005 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford, the company now employs more than 600 people from multiple disciplines including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation. The management team, led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera, has a track record of delivering disruptive technologies to the market.

We're proud to be playing a small part in helping to protect the critically endangered Bermuda Cedar by building a high-quality reference genome. This is part of our commitment, through ORG.one, to help protect endangered species through cutting-edge genomic research, contributing to global conservation efforts.
Did you hear the news? We are partnering with Bermuda based NGO BioQuest, Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ ORG.one, The Government of Bermuda's Department of Culture, Bermuda National Trust, and Roche Bermuda on our Pilot Series of Conservation Challenges, which will help protect the Bermuda Cedar tree. All Conservation Challenges are hosted on the newly launched Wise Ancestors Platform (platform.wiseancestors.org) tie genomic research with upfront benefit-sharing and will contribute to Earth BioGenome Project. Partially funded by a grant to Wise Ancestors from the Future of Life Institute (FLI), the pilot challenges aim to fundraise approximately $56,000 and onboard additional scientific collaborators to complete the world’s first well-annotated, high-quality reference genome and genetic test for the Bermuda Cedar (Juniperus bermudiana), which is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Take action and help us protect this species at platform.wiseancestors.org. BioQuest & Wise Ancestors will be at next week's UN Biodiversity #COP16Colombia in the Blue Zone (Booth 67) for additional inquiries. #conservationgenomics #biodiversity #conservation #genetics #naturebased #COP16Colombia #ForNature #sciencenews #science #benefitsharing #Bermuda

Today is #WorldFoodDay. We are dedicated to improving #foodsafety at Oxford Nanopore through continuous innovation. As we prepare for the GenomeTrakr Meeting and the International Food Safety Conference, we are excited to have the US FDA spotlight our latest advancements. Recently, 9 state labs were awarded LFFM funding — to implement #GridION into their #sequencing labs — and are set to participate in Oxford Nanopore Technologies' training hosted by FDA Center for Food Safety and Nutrition, to accelerate the usage of nanopore technology for pathogen detection and empowering labs to transition from legacy systems. Our involvement in the International Food Safety Conference in South Korea also marks an important milestone. Joined by the US FDA CFSAN Branch Chief, local partners like SANIGEN Co., Ltd., and academic leaders, we will showcase improvements in accuracy and reproducibility, reinforcing the confidence in Oxford #Nanopore sequencing’s ability to deliver precise, high-quality sequencing data to support global food safety initiatives. Together, these advancements demonstrate how Oxford Nanopore offers a reliable and scalable alternative for research and routine foodborne pathogen sequencing, driving global re-evaluation of legacy technologies and its real-world impact in food safety surveillance. 50% of rare monogenic disease cases are left unsolved. In a recent publication, researchers shared how they developed an efficient and cost-effective pipeline that could generate variant, phasing, and methylation calls of disease samples — all in a single run. They also discuss how this demonstrates the use of #nanopore technology to detect novel genomic information to resolve these unresolved cases potentially, in the future.
