About us
We are in the business of 'story-telling' - approaching every project by knowing the people who will be using the places we help create and how we can talk to them, attract, inform, surprise and delight them along their journey. Put simply, we design brands and places for people. And making sure it's always an exciting, immersive, multi-sensory journey through the very essence of your brand, is a collective of highly creative and strategically-minded individuals. In November 2015, Portland joined global architecture and design firm Perkins+Will. With 24 offices and 1,800 professionals worldwide, Perkins+Will creates thoughtful, beautiful, purposefully designed places for people to live, learn, work, travel, play, and heal. The firm’s focus on research, innovation, and sustainability led to its 2015 distinction as one of “The World’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Architecture” by Fast Company, and as the No. 5 leading architecture and design firm in the U.S. by ARCHITECT Magazine.

Ikea has launched an initiative called “Careers Done Different” to attract a new generation of co-workers. This campaign includes The Co-Worker Game, a virtual store on Roblox opening on June 24th. Designed to showcase the variety of roles and career progression opportunities at Ikea, the virtual store engages users through games inspired by real-life jobs at the Swedish retailer. Ikea is hiring 10 individuals from the UK or Ireland, aged 18 or older, to work in the virtual store, paying them £13.15 per hour, aligned with the Living Wage Foundation's real living wage. Tasks include serving meatballs and assisting users with finding virtual furniture, mirroring actual Ikea roles. The recruitment process involves a questionnaire, an updated CV, and potentially a video submission, with successful candidates invited to digital interviews. Even those not hired can explore the virtual store and win Ikea-exclusive user-generated content, providing a unique way to experience and interact with the brand. By integrating real monetary compensation into a virtual environment, Ikea creates an engaging and practical platform that enhances brand interaction and community engagement. https://lnkd.in/g_5kuarU

🐝🌼 Happy World Bee Day! 🌼🐝 Did you know that bees pollinate 75% of our leading global crops? That includes oilseed rape, apples, soft fruits, beans, courgettes, tomatoes, and strawberries! Bees are crucial for our food supply and biodiversity, and they need our support. Here’s how you can help: 🌸 Plant Bee-Friendly Flowers: Add plants like heather, daisies, and red clover to your balconies, terraces, and gardens. 🌿 Let Your Garden Grow Wild: Leave sections of your garden untamed and let the grass grow long to provide shelter for bees. 🏨 Create a Bee Hotel: Offer a cozy place for bees to rest in your garden. 💧 Provide Water: Place a small dish with pebbles and shallow water to help thirsty bees. 🏠 Special Bee Bricks: Use special bricks designed for bees to live in. 🚫 Avoid Pesticides: Pesticides are harmful to bees. Opt for natural alternatives. 🍯 Support Local Beekeepers: Buy honey and other hive products from your nearest local beekeeper. Let’s make our world a better place for bees, one flower at a time! 🌸🐝💛 #WorldBeeDay #SaveTheBees #BeeFriendly #Pollinators #EcoFriendly #Biodiversity #SustainableLiving

I was delighted to contribute the ACROSS Magazine OUTSTANDING EUROPEAN PLACEMAKING PROJECTS feature where I cite Old Spitalfields Market in London as an outstanding piece of placemaking. I chose it for many reasons, but key amongst them was its seamless connection to community, its permeability, human scale, its blend of small independent brands and familiar national/international brands, it's blend of food and retail and it's blend of temporary and permanent and temporary offers Klaus Striebich Reinhard Winiwarter

Are you going to UKREiiF (silly question...who isn't!)? Don't miss this panel session on "The Global Data Revolution: AI & Data-Led Design". If it's anything like the discussion we had with the panel members yesterday...it's going to be epic!! Looking forward to hearing more from; 📘 Al Kingsley, Chair of Business Board & Member for Regeneration, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority 📗 Emma Weller, Digital Design Lead, Introba 📙 Ibrahim Ibrahim, Managing Partner, Portland Design 📔 Nikki Webber, Digital Planning Lead, City of London Corporation Some of the things we are going to unravel (without giving too much away)... "#Data needs to be usable" "Users need the #skills" "It's not data, it's #evidence" "Design should be #consumer-led" "#Education at every age and stage" "#TraditionalAI vs #GenerativeAI" "Data can make the case for #retrofit" "AI can reduce your #carbon footprint" If any of this floats your boat, and you're looking for a delicious (free) lunch, then head to the Pearl Suite at 1pm on Tuesday 21st May! Join me and other LDN Collective members there. Thanks Lisa Kenny and Sidara for pulling together such an excellent session, and Matt Christie for all the support 💪 #UKREIIF #UKREIIF2024 #Sidara #LDNCollective #WeAreCityMakers

Reflections on Passenger Terminal EXPO & CONFERENCE ✈️ .... the event was oozing with positivity, optimism and energy and it was really lovely to connect and re-connect with friends and contacts old and new. So many great conversations and ideas to follow up! As well as lots of meetings on the British Aviation Group stand, it was great to take part in 2 panel sessions and of course the highlight of the event was Munich Airport NJ LLC (Newark Airport Terminal A) winning the Skytrax award for Best New Terminal in addition to getting a 5* accreditation! Thanks to Janine McEvilly and Sevda Fevzi-Williams Jean-Pierre Tabet Satyaki Raghunath Rory Sutherland for making our panel session so insightful and entertaining in equal measures - an hour was not enough! #PTEExpoConf
