This is 08787. Well, it started life as 08787 but its identity was switched at Crewe Works to 08296 but it is returning to 08787, but enough of that… The 08 is being rebuilt by Positive Traction at Chesterfield and will be released for a contract with Heidelberg Materials UK at Whatley. The shunter, which was built in May 1957, has been out of traffic for many years but is being returned to traffic as an 08e locomotive. Its diesel engine is being replaced by batteries. Trials using prototype 08e No 08308 found it could shift 1,600 tonnes around the site. More in the May edition of Modern Railways.
