We were excited to attend the launch of the Thames Estuary’s Five Point Plan for Fair Growth and Investment this morning at the Houses of Parliament. We have been working alongside Chris Clarke for the past 3 years to understand the experience of residents within the Estuary, and support the Growth Board to respond to this. It is great to see this data and insight underpinning the work of the Growth Board going forward, and we hope to see other areas follow this approach. Rose Jump Will Temple

MeasureUp! We are proud to be collaborating with our friends at Impact Reporting and State of Life in launching MeasureUp: a free online resource to support more robust and meaningful social value research. For us, good evidence is fundamental to better decision making. More than ever before, we need to be sure that the investments we are making, and the projects we are delivering, are maximising long term outcomes for people and places. And, with resources tighter than ever, the evidence that we use to make our case has to be stronger and more reliable than ever. Too often though, we are relying on opaque valuation methodologies and not paying enough attention to the reliability of the assumptions we are making. MeasureUp provides open access to a meticulously researched bank of social valuation data and methodologies. It shines a light on the sources and evidence which underpin the benchmarks we are using. Crucially, it also provides guidance on how we can improve the reliability of social impact valuation via targeted research. Ultimately, its only by investing in research that we will improve the quality and reliability of the evidence we are using. Introducing MeasureUp: new valuation framework! As the new Procurement Act approaches (coming into effect February 24, 2025), a coalition of changemakers has made the unprecedented move to give organisations full access to previously opaque and proprietary social valuation data and methodologies - free of charge. Developed by Impact Reporting, State of Life and PRD, MeasureUp is tackling one of the most difficult challenges around assessing social value head-on: how to value real impact in a meaningful way. We've meticulously researched and curated social and environmental valuation framework and decided to make it freely available to improve social impact practice - and make it more transparent to support regulations Key features: 🟣 Align your reporting with trusted frameworks like the ONS Wellbeing Dimensions, UK Government Greenbook, and the Sustainable Development Goals. 🟣 Protect your organisation from “purpose-washing” by backing up your claims with credible evidence. 🟣 Showcase the value of unconventional community activities that are making a big difference – from youth engagement to access to green spaces. Great to see our working paper with the Institute for Global Prosperity published today. Since the cost of living crisis began, Rose Jump and Will Temple have been looking at how good evidence can support more impactful interventions. The working paper shows how secondary data can be used to identify neighbourhoods which are most likely to be exposed to rising inflation and livelihood insecurity, and support more targeted policy responses. Check it out below 👇
As the cost of living crisis continues to deeply impact many households and families across the UK, our new working paper by PROCOL UK Lead Saffron Woodcraft with colleagues at PRD analyses the crisis using a livelihood security lens. With secondary data, the paper looks at where livelihood insecurity is most acute at a hyper-local level for the four Growth Boroughs in east London: Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham and Waltham Forest. We argue that understanding #prosperity at the local level based on actual lived experiences is critical for policies to address the cost-of-living crisis and the underlying, chronic issue of livelihood insecurity. We also provide recommendations for policy interventions that support livelihood security by strengthening the underlying ‘infrastructure’ of assets, services and networks that people rely on. Over the past few months, we have had the opportunity to be involved in the Transport for London and Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC)-commissioned Women’s Safety Audits pilot being led by We Made That. PRD team member Mary-Helen Young was part of the expert advisory board that worked alongside UCL Citizen Science Academy to develop the pilot and train nearly 60 Community Researchers across London to explore the issue of safety in their communities. The Mayor of London has recently announced a new action plan to improve safety in the city, and it was great to see the Women’s Safety Audits mentioned in the Harper’s Bazaar article covering the topic: https://lnkd.in/eWs4HMSS While this is only one piece of a complex puzzle in the response to violence against women and girls, it is hopefully an important step towards creating places that are truly inclusive and welcoming to all. Last month, a few members of the PRD team participated in the Bankside Futures summer programme to run a data workshop for young people in our local area. We had a great time at the session, working with population and jobs data for Southwark to get students thinking critically about what the figures might be telling us. It was also fun to watch some of our participants experience the joy of creating a beautiful chart on Excel for the first time! As a proud Bankside business, it was a pleasure to get involved with such a fantastic scheme in our neighbourhood. It has inspired us to think about how we can run more sessions like this, to include more young people in the conversations surrounding our work and help to prepare them for their futures in the workforce. Thank you to Sculpt and Better Bankside for organising and inviting us to take part! Sophie Nellis Rose Jump Malavika Krishnan Victoria S. Anaihita Singh

As Paris 2024 draws to a close we have been reflecting on the work we have been doing in East London since London 2012. Since before the London games we have been advising boroughs and London Legacy Development Corporation, providing economic evidence and strategy advice on this generation defining project. We have supported planning policy, advised on economic impact, innovation, night time economy and workspace. We have delivered community engagement, social research and data analysis, driving a deeper understanding of change in London's fastest growing sub-region. A couple of years ago we were asked to support London Borough of Newham to develop a new vision for Stratford Town Centre. This was a different kind of approach, which went beyond a simple masterplan or economic strategy, aiming to put people, place, planet and purpose back into partners work. It considered the need to unite neighbourhoods under 'One Stratford', whilst also working with grain of grassroots sentiment and enthusiasm, to support new approaches. We think Stratford remains one of the most interesting and exciting place to work anywhere in the UK and a pleased with how the new strategy has already started to support new approaches to place and community. With this in mind, Chris Paddock and Carolina Eboli have taken time to reflect on this project here. See what you think - What can other places learn from this? Where might Stratford be by the time of LA '28? https://lnkd.in/e_DBFscV
