We're celebrating #HeritageTreasures Day with The National Lottery Heritage Fund by sharing some exciting news: Colchester's historic water tower, affectionally known as Jumbo, has been awarded an £8m grant to secure its future. Purcell has been working on the project with North Essex Heritage and are currently the lead design team, architects, and heritage consultants for the ambitious renovation, which will see the 131ft tower made fully accessible to the public for the first time as a heritage and events space. Good progress continues to be made on the construction of the new Shoemakers Museum in Street, Somerset. The photos show a peek at one gallery, the ‘street’, the link into the medieval farmhouse and the main entrance stairs. It’s not often that I get to see fire tests in person, and even less so tests of historic doors, but today I witnessed just that. Two existing doors side by side, almost identical, with the exception that one has received joinery repairs, smoke seals, and fire rated glass set within a secondary frame. It was a hugely interesting and informative day to see these tests taking place.

Thank you to everyone at Lendlease for the past couple of months! It has been an absolute privilege to have had the chance to work on Manchester Town Hall, and a fantastic start to my apprenticeship with PlanBEE (Built Environment Education). I’m grateful for the opportunity to dive right in and take on responsibility from day one. This experience has really boosted my confidence and allowed me to see firsthand how the refurbishment of Our Town Hall is managed. I've also had the pleasure of building relationships with the sub-contractors. I can’t wait to start at Purcell carrying on working on the refurbishment of Manchester Town Hall, gaining experience from the Architecture side!
