The QTS team has been out at Baronwood following extensive earthwork damage to the rock cutting on the SAC line in Cumbria caused by consecutive storms Isha and Jocelyn in January 2024. The damage to the earthwork included windblown trees, exposure of rootballs on the slope, oversteep soils, and damage to the slope face mobilising cobbles and boulders which posed a significant risk to the active railway. Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSRs) had to be put in place as a result of this. Following the initial response earlier in the year, the team is now undertaking rock cutting remedial works under the NW&C Renewals framework. QTS, in partnership with designer Fairhurst, developed an engineered solution comprising draped rock netting and a new rockfill bund which reduces the risk posed to the railway and allows the TSRs to be lifted, putting passengers first.

Love this! What an interesting way to show off the great work we do on the railway!
Told in my favourite medium. The tale of Croydon Off-Track Drainage team and QTS Group RailBoss squad, a successful drainage maintenance shift, a suspected lost asset, and its subsequent recovery. Choose a job well done. #SussexRoute #DrainageManagement #Drainspotting #SimplerBetterGreener #LeadingWithPurpose #PositiveImpact #Maintenance #Railway #COTME

QTS Group, a leading contractor in the British railway industry, partnered with Tele Radio Group to develop a remote-control solution for a selection of its machinery. Tele Radio visited QTS’s HQ in Scotland to understand what made the collaboration between the two companies a great success. To ensure worker safety, QTS staff observe strict safety procedures. A wireless solution introduces a next level of safety: operators keep their distance from machines – significantly reducing the potential for accidents – while improving their view of what’s happening. Moreover, Tele Radio’s TEQ line is PLe CAT 3 rated and features a stop function at SIL3 safety level.
