Just 14% of renters aged 18-30 knew what the Energy Performance Certificate meant for them and their housing. Something needs to change. “Tenants are demanding fairness, transparency, and real choices in their homes. This report and our Tenant Pulse platform sets out the path for action. Now, it’s up to decision-makers to listen.” David Wilton told us, Chief Executive at TPAS Cymru, a body that looks after tenant voices in Wales. His team unearthed some chilling comments from tenants struggling with their properties.

Heating or homelessness isn't much of a choice is it? Thanks to Eleanor Speer for sending this through.

What do these three people have in common? It is not what you think. Obs. Anna Moore, Hannah Jameson, and Lynne Sullivan RIBA are all thought leaders. They were also the three keynote speakers at the opening ceremony for the innovative space demonstrating retrofit solutions and stories of success at the Building Centre in London. Co curated and created by the National Retrofit Hub, the exhibition is now open and free for entry right now. You can see interactive exhibits which detail projects from across the UK detailing the pioneers who are making retrofit happen. Touch feel (and sit on) innovative retrofit devices and materials. See what they are, and do. Most importantly, go. Tell your friends. Listen to the keynote speakers in our exclusive interviews with them in the article and video link below ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

We caught up with Domna (formerly Hestia) CEO Anna Moore at the launch of the National Retrofit Hub and Building Centre art project in London. Domna are expert at retrofit, and Anna heads an organisation that know more than most about the challenges, obstacles and benefits of retrofit. So when she says we need more money. It's the private sector. We need to lean on. Because the government. Is quite frankly as skint as we are. Which isn't going to change anytime soon.

You say things enough, convincingly and with truth and you will get noticed. Rachael Owens is a powerhouse in retrofit and getting a slot with Phil Spencer, the housing guru is quite a coup, especially with the size of the Move iQ podcast audience. It hit's just the demographic that the National Retrofit Hub needs to coax into home improvements based on energy use not just home value. Congrats to Rachel and can't wait till it pops in our feed.
Speak to almost anyone involved in retrofit about challenges to scale, and at some point they will bring up citizen demand. This is a topic tackled in the National Retrofit Hub’s working group 6, but it comes up across the board! - Householder demand was a clear theme at both Green Finance Institute summits (Edinburgh and London). - Which? ‘s 2023 Insulation Report found that many people think their home already performs well enough - while still being worried about their bills. That’s why I was keen to join Phil Spencer on the Move iQ podcast, to talk to his audience of householders about the benefits of retrofit and how to get started. We discussed: - What retrofit is, and why householders should care. - The importance of good repair and maintenance, particularly for traditional building - signposting Historic England’s guidance here. - The power of a Retrofit Assesment and Plan, conducted by a retrofit coordinator to give you all the information you need on your home, and the ability to plan for the future. - Grants and finance available. - Routes for tenants. And more! Thanks Amanda Harvey and Steven Cale for inviting me along! The beautiful setting and sunny day didn’t hurt either!
