🔙 Throwback to last month’s topping-out event at Deptford Landings, where we joined our partners at Peabody, Mayor of Lewisham Brenda Dacres, and Lewisham Council to celebrate a major milestone - the topping out of 189 fully affordable, low-energy homes in southeast London. This project will be one of the UK’s largest single-phase Passivhaus developments, ensuring residents benefit from lower energy costs, enhanced comfort, and improved air quality. The 100% affordable scheme will deliver a mix of social rent and shared ownership homes, supporting local families from the council’s housing waiting list and helping first-time buyers step onto the property ladder. Very interesting article from BBC News about the impacts of noise. Whilst I fully support the efforts to reduce external noise sources I have also seen the benefits of good design and installing triple glazed windows on #passivhaus projects minimising noise to internal environments. One particular example at Harris Academy Sutton, a member of staff knew about the many benefits of passivhaus schools but was still shocked by the quietness and therefore calmness of the completed building. There was no disruptions from noise from the busy main road, or even playground breaks, you would hear when a thousand students walked down the corridor at class change, but even that noise was subdued. A recent survey by Measuring Mass Timber of the building noted “50% of occupants feel more relaxed and comfortable”. This shows that great sustainable design has many benefits to the environment and health - some of which we are still only now starting to understand. #sustainablearchitecture #noise #healthlydesign
