Yesterday afternoon, students from schools of architecture including: Ravensbourne University London, University of East London, London South Bank University, Kingston University, Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London, University of Westminster, University of Greenwich were invited to attend a practice visit at White Arkitekter. Students were given a tour of the studio, and an insight into recent projects from the studio as well as first hand advice on portfolio's and what to consider when seeking a placement in industry. Information was thorough and interesting, providing a space for students to understand the practice and profession further. A special thanks to Gareth Malanaphy, Alyaa Azhar, Claire Wadey, Aisha Khan for facilitating the day as part of our Future Architects initiative. We would like to extend our thanks to all students who attended for their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions. #FutureArchitects #StudentPracticeVisit

Mailen Design's Alex Clough recently had the privilege of taking part in the University of Greenwich architecture crits, where second and third-year undergraduate students presented their technical submissions ahead of their final hand-ins. As a mentor through the RIBA programme, Alex contributed real-world technical insights to help students refine their projects. Key discussions centred on: Testing construction techniques – Encouraging students to explore physical modelling to better understand materiality, structure, and the impact of lighting within their designs. Resolving technical detailing – Supporting students in producing detailed cut-away axonometric sections, referencing real-world precedents to enhance their understanding of how key architectural details are successfully implemented. Reflecting on the experience, Alex shared: "It was fantastic to see students bring their ideas to life, challenging them to think beyond precedent imagery and really consider how these effects are created and controlled. I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, working alongside tutors Jonathan Walker and Jen Wan, and seeing the students’ enthusiasm and creativity firsthand." At Mailen Design, we are always keen to engage with emerging talent and support the next generation of architects in developing the skills needed to shape our built environment. #ArchitectureEducation #Mentorship #UniversityOfGreenwich #RIBA #EmergingArchitects #DesignExcellence #TechnicalInnovation

We’re delighted to announce that our new temporary London office will be based at the Jerwood Centre, in partnership with the Royal College of Physicians. Our current base at 66 Portland Place will temporarily close to the public from 1 June 2025 onwards and the office move will take place late August 2025 to commence its refurbishment and restoration. Designed by Carden & Godfrey Architects to blend in with the surrounding Georgian and neo-Georgian buildings in Peto Place, the Jerwood Centre was opened in 2002 by the then HRH The Prince of Wales. The building is next door to the iconic Royal College of Physicians headquarters - where RIBA will share use of some facilities - a Grade I listed building designed by renowned architect, Royal Gold Medallist Sir Denys Lasdun. It’s a short walk from 66 Portland Place, served by both Great Portland Street and Regent's Park underground stations. ➡️ Find out more: https://ow.ly/HZtA50Vmb85

It’s Monday morning and surprisingly, I am beaming with pride… Last Friday we hosted the Graduate Showcase at the RIBA as part of the Festival of the Future 💫 Let’s just say, it went spectacularly!! This year has been an incredibly busy one for myself, as a freelancer, creator and mentor I’ve been juggling quite a few ongoing projects and at times it certainly felt like I was spinning plates This was my first time curating an in-person event of this scale (hehe) But in all honesty, the hard work came down to the 5 amazing creatives I wanted to spotlight They were all keen from the get-go and my goal was just to support them through their career I know first-hand how frustrating, isolating and scary it can be being a graduate in our industry - seems like there is a huge gap that no one wants to address but all 5 of these individuals had something special in common: they are pursuing things outside of their educational background; from community engagement to video documentation and AR exploration, it’s so fascinating to see how they are constantly learning It was a super rewarding experience to see our friends from past Open Studio’s come along and network too (tbh it was like a big party!) thank you to Beyond The Box CIC and RIBA (more specifically, Neil Onions & Sophie Draper) for making this happen I’m really excited for what’s ahead but for now, Happy Monday y’all ☺️ — Akif Rahman, Hani Ali, Nylda H., Naomi Anna George, Helana Danial, Yukta Chegu, Yaman P. If this was insightful, consider re-sharing ♻️ and follow me, Sana, for more content like this! 🍒 Keep up with me daily on Instagram → @to.scale

Had an absolute blast at the RIBA Nerdworking x Nobody's Fool Mystery Games event hosted by RIBA London last evening! Material Lab transformed into Vice County High School for a thrilling 80s-themed murder mystery. Jess, Amber Boothe and Vicky created an engaging interactive experience where we all became high school seniors trying to solve the mysterious death of a brilliant mathlete. As head of the prom committee, I found myself at the center of the murder, dealing with missing people and possible murder weapons. What made the format particularly enjoyable was how beginner-friendly it was. Just three simple rules made everything flow smoothly: share your character information freely, keep secrets unless directly asked, and don't invent information. The genius twist? Even the killer didn't know they were the killer until the big reveal! This meant everyone could fully participate without trying to hide their guilt. It was great catching up with Rita Martínez Romero, Eliza Palos and Awni P. throughout the evening as we moved from table to table, gathering clues and trying to determine who had the means, motive, and opportunity to commit the crime. In the end, many of us were surprised by who committed the deadly deed, portrayed brilliantly by Charlotte Hollands! The interactive format kept us guessing until the very end. If you're looking for a unique networking experience that breaks the ice naturally and creates conversations beyond the usual small talk, I highly recommend keeping an eye out for the next Nerdworking event by RIBA. Shout out to Peter Greaves for chanelling his inner Joey Ramone last night! 😎 Tickets out now for the next Nerdworking event: https://lnkd.in/eex-ncCS #ribalondon #networking #architecture #mysterygames #nobodysfoolmysteries #professionalnetworking #creativenetworking #londonevents #architecturecommunity #riba

Chun-Li Reid's RIBA LIF funded project, Cooking with an architect continues with this compelling latest episode featuring architect Chris Hildrey. #RIBA #LIF
Life Transforming Innovation, Proxy Address! ✨ Cooking with an Architect is here! This time, we’re joined by Chris Hildrey, founder of Proxy Address, an innovative solution helping homeless individuals access essential services by providing them with a stable address. Without a fixed address, people struggle to open bank accounts, apply for jobs, or receive benefits—Proxy Address repurposes existing addresses to bridge this gap without affecting property rights. In this episode, we explore how design thinking can drive social impact, the challenges of tackling homelessness, and of course, a dish that brings it all together. Watch now to see how architecture and advocacy meet in the kitchen! ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ezwPdEHc __________ Thank you to RIBA London LIF for sponsoring series 3 of Cooking with an Architect. #CookingWithAnArchitect #ProxyAddress #SocialImpact #DesignForGood RIBA #cooking #chef #architecture #architects #riba #homelessness
