Construction Market Intelligence | Scotland Q3 2024 The outlook for the Scottish construction industry is cautious but optimistic, which reflects the market opportunities available and the broader economic picture, according to Construction Market Intelligence, RLB’s update on construction activity around the UK incorporating our quarterly tender price forecast. In the newly published Q3 2024 edition, we report that the volume of construction work in Scotland is slightly down compared to the rest of the UK but greater stability in the economy over the next 12 months is anticipated, which will improve project delivery and benefiting supply chains and developers alike. The cost of construction materials remains high due to inflation, but market conditions are looking more settled compared to previous periods of price volatility. Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) is proud to have recently donated original build documentation from the construction of the Sydney Opera House to its archives, a significant milestone that reflects our deep involvement in this iconic project. The Sydney Opera House is not just an architectural wonder; it’s a living work of art – a place of possibility, wonder, and inspiration. We are thrilled to have played a role in shaping this globally recognised landmark, and now, by entrusting these historic documents to its archives, we are preserving an important part of Australia's architectural and cultural history for future generations. As RLB celebrates 70 years in New South Wales in 2024, we are honoured to have contributed to the Opera House’s journey, from the meticulous cost planning that helped transform Jørn Utzon’s vision into reality, to supporting the continuing legacy of this national treasure. Stephen Mee, Managing Director of RLB NSW, said: "By entrusting these documents to the Sydney Opera House’s archives, we are preserving an important part of Australia’s architectural and cultural history for future generations." Non-residential crane numbers across Australia have hit a new peak (370 cranes) according to the 25th edition of the RLB Crane Index®, as the large amount of civil and infrastructure projects impact the construction industry. Domenic Schiafone, the Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) Oceania Director of Research and Development said, ”Construction crane numbers remain strong across Australia led by Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.” “The Australian construction industry remains buoyant, with 863 cranes on sites nationally. The Q3 2024 RLB Crane Index® has recorded the third highest count in the 25 editions of the index. The index has recorded more than 800 cranes nationally for the past six editions,” he added. Key points in this edition: ▪ Construction activity is up as Sydney leads the way ▪ Nearly half of all crane numbers across the country in NSW ▪ Civil and engineering sector continues strong growth ▪ Sydney’s west overtakes the north in crane numbers Read RLB's analysis ▸ https://lnkd.in/g_Xw7uRh

The Q3 2024 RLB Crane Index® released today, reveals a notable decline in construction activity across New Zealand, with a total of 124 long-term cranes currently operating on sites - a decrease of 11% (15 cranes) compared to the previous six months. This drop highlights ongoing challenges in the nation’s economy. Steve Gracey, Auckland Managing Director and Oceania Chairman of Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) noted, “The current results reflect a significant reduction in residential construction in particular, with the number of residential long-term cranes decreasing by eight (from 30 to 22), representing a 27% decline.” Key points in this edition: ▪ Sharp decline in residential cranes indicates broader downturn ▪ Non-residential sector also impacted due to economic conditions ▪ Dunedin and Tauranga record highest crane numbers ▪ Drop in overall crane numbers highlights pressure on residential market ▪ Total building consents reflect slowing activity in Auckland ▪ Data centre sector in Auckland region remains strong Read RLB's analysis ▸ https://lnkd.in/gGa7--BR

This weekend, we’re excited to host our RLB Global Conference guests at the newly expanded Art Gallery NSW, a project close to our hearts. As part of the Sydney Modern Project, this stunning expansion is an iconic addition to Sydney's cultural landscape, offering breathtaking spaces like the Viewing Terrace in Naala Badu and the Yiribana Gallery, showcasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. RLB in New South Wales had the privilege of providing full cost management services for this remarkable transformation, completed in 2022. It’s a true celebration of art, architecture, and innovation, and we’re thrilled to share this experience with our international colleagues.
