Construction

We’re one of the largest family-owned construction, infrastructure and support services businesses in the UK.

About us

We’re one of the largest family-owned construction, infrastructure and support services businesses in the UK, and we apply the same principles to every aspect of our business today that we did over fifty years ago when Bill Robertson began with his joinery firm in Elgin. Over the years our sustainable growth has enabled us to invest in our business, the future of people and communities, and to deliver on major projects, housing schemes and facilities management for customers nationally. We have the ability to accept big challenges, and build positive, mutually beneficial partner relationships. At the same time we think locally, working with stakeholders and the supply chain to deliver services and infrastructure that will stand the test of time. Today we employ over 3,200 talented people across a broad range of roles including construction, timber engineering, facilities management, capital projects, property development, regeneration, civil engineering, building services and housebuilding. Ultimately, our approach is about making progress safely towards a sustainable future. It’s the Robertson Way. #WeAreTeamRobertson

“Working on such a historic and important place for the region is a special feeling. The work we’re doing will protect the Grainger Market and add much-needed updates so that this building can continue writing history.” Northumbria University graduate and local lad Ross Greenwell used to spend his lunchtimes exploring the Grainger Market with friends in between lectures. Fast-forward 10 years, he’s now Site Manager working at Robertson Group who are helping us deliver our £9m regeneration programme of works.  Donning hard hats and hi vis vests, Ross took us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the works currently underway, explaining the logistics of keeping a busy market moving during construction phases and the benefits once work is finished. “The Arcade will be something really special. Once complete, it’ll be a bright, open and airy multi-functional space capable of hosting live events. Two pavilions will face each other from either side of the Arcade and there’ll be seating areas where people can relax, snack on their lunch, or just enjoy the world ambling by.”  “The installation of sliding doors and heated flooring to the seated steps on the Nun Street pavilion will massively improve traders’ and visitors’ experience in the Market – especially when winter rolls in.” Phase 1 is underway and moving at a canny rate of knots. Both toilet areas will be deconstructed, stripped, and cleared and soon enough, a shiny new toilet area will be open for everyone to use and enjoy.  “At the moment, our focus is on delivering a totally renovated and accessible toilet facilities. We’ve taken everything back to brick, dug the flooring up to give full access to wheelchair and pram users, plus it’ll allow us to install more spacious cubicles and sink areas. It’ll be quite the change from old facilities, and we think it’ll be a space people will love.”  An exciting and game-changing development for the Grainger Market and the people we welcome daily. We can’t wait to see it all come together.

  • Yesterday afternoon Dundee City Council leader Mark Flynn visited the site of the new Drumgeith Community Campus and Greenfield Academy to see progress on the £100 million development, being delivered by Robertson Construction Tayside. It's the Council's largest investment in education, sport and community and will serve as a modern and vibrant central hub for the north and east of the city for both pupils and the community to use.  We have been partner of choice with the Council for several years now and this project represents a shared vision of creating modern, sustainable, high quality buildings that make a difference to the people who use them, as well as the local economy through the construction process and beyond. As Councillor Flynn says, “This is a really exciting time for the whole community, and I am pleased to see progress on such an important investment for the future of our city. Drumgeith Community Campus and Greenfield Academy show our ambition to deliver real improvements and make the city a better place for everyone." • 100 days after pupils and staff moved into Montgomerie Park Primary School in Irvine we caught up with headteacher Fiona Smyth to find out how they’re settling in. Fiona was impressed with the high quality of the work, and the care and attention shown by Robertson. “We were just in awe,” she says. “The facilities in Montgomerie Park are second to none. You could feel the positivity, the enthusiasm and the sheer excitement for this building and we do believe a lot of that started with the team from Robertson creating a very calm, very welcoming atmosphere. “It’s a very high standard of finish and that’s what makes it so special and what makes our pupils take pride in it. They walked into somewhere people had taken great care and attention of and they've continued to do that as the school has evolved.” Built by Robertson Construction Central West for North Ayrshire Council, the first Passivhaus school in the region accommodates up to 342 pupils, plus an early learning and childcare facility with 32 places for three to five-year-olds, and 15 places for two-year-olds. #construction #passivhaus #sustainability #education

Last week saw the official opening of ONE SeedPod in Aberdeen, a food and drink industry innovation hub led by Opportunity North East Limited and delivered by Robertson Construction Eastern as the main contractor. Aimed at boosting high-value manufacturing it’s the single largest public-private investment in the growth of Scotland’s food and drink manufacturing sector. The £27 million project, part of the Aberdeen City Region Deal, is creating a hub for businesses to scale production, develop new products, test innovative processes, and access industry expertise, entrepreneurial education and mentoring developed by ONE and partners. It is part of ONE's drive to help the transformation of Aberdeen from an oil and gas city to a diverse economy with high-value businesses and the creation of skilled jobs. As Elliot Robertson our Chief Executive Officer, says: “As trusted delivery partner, it was incredibly important to us that we realised ONE’s vision of a food and drink industry innovation hub, which drives inward investment and champions regional and national economic growth. It was also essential that we delivered a high-quality building that throughout construction, supported local jobs, early career development and local suppliers.” The complex structure was designed, manufactured and erected by Robertson Timber Engineering, as a complete timber frame solution. We are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation. That’s why we are partnering with Edinburgh College to provide students with hands-on experience, bridging the gap between the classroom and the world of work. This week, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen that partnership, which Urban Union and Robertson Construction Central East will implement. It follows a MOU that we signed with City of Glasgow College last year, which saw 19 students take part in work placements, with three students gaining full-time employment. We are looking forward to working with Edinburgh College to continue to widen access to careers in construction and make sure that training and education aligns with industry needs. Image: Urban Union MD Neil McKay and Robertson Construction Central East MD David Cairns were joined by Edinburgh College’s Vice Principal Michael Jeffrey, students, staff and our social impact managers to sign the MOU. • Together with Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), we’ve launched a free toolkit designed to help Scotland's construction sector meet its legal environmental obligations and build a more sustainable future. Aimed at upskilling suppliers, sub-contractors and individuals across the construction industry, the toolkit is the culmination of a joint agreement between Robertson and SEPA - the first in Scotland to focus on environmental performance across an entire supply chain. The toolkit includes a series of environmental guidance notes and supporting videos to provide practical guidance on environmental compliance issues. As our Chief Executive Officer Elliot Robertson says: “Increasing awareness around environmental responsibilities and impact can only lead to improvements which deliver benefits for everyone involved in construction projects, but more importantly for the protection of our planet.” Developed with NetRegs, the toolkit is a free resource now available at https://lnkd.in/eB2rkYpA, or on Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK)'s website at https://lnkd.in/eWkH8vH7. • Through our integrated FM services contract with Stockport Council, Robertson Facilities Management sprang into action when Thorn Grove Primary School suffered severe flooding on New Year’s Day. With the boiler room submerged and no heating, the school faced weeks of closure and a costly fix. Adopting a ‘one team’ approach together with our supply chain and Stockport Council, we drained 27,000l of water before finding out that the boiler was severely water damaged and uneconomic to repair. Find out how we came up with a solution to save the school money, and got pupils back to class as soon as possible in our case study. Robertson recently won the Sustainable Transport category at the VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards and last night members of the team joined other winners at an event at the Scottish Parliament to showcase the work being done to create a sustainable, low-carbon future through ‘innovative and sustainable practices'. Films about each winner were shown, including the one on this post about our dynamic approach to sustainable transport (we’ve eradicated petrol and diesel vehicles from our company car fleet) and how we deliver against our purpose of assuring a sustainable future in a structured and responsible way. As Graeme Hannah, our Director of Sustainability and Social Impact said on winning the award, “It is very important to us that we demonstrate leadership towards achieving Scotland’s net zero target. Winning this award is recognition of the good work we are doing with our employees, customers and supply chain partners to reduce our impact as we work together to protect the natural environment.” Watch the video to hear about our approach or read more at https://lnkd.in/eTGX2Ste VIBES Awards are a partnership between Scottish Environment Protection Agency, The Scottish Government, Energy Saving Trust, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise, South of Scotland Enterprise, Scottish Water, Zero Waste Scotland and NatureScot #construction #esg #innovation #sustainability #VIBES

Being socially responsible in all that we do is hugely important to us. This is highlighted by the initiatives that took place on the Talbot Gateway hotel project that Robertson Construction North West completed for Muse and Blackpool Council. Over the course of the project 40 local people were employed and we took on 14 local apprentices. We also hosted work placements and pre-employment courses and developed strong ties with local organisations, schools and colleges. Read more about the social value created and why Regional Managing Director Dirk Pittaway says it “exemplifies our commitment to leaving a long-lasting positive effect on communities” in our case study at https://lnkd.in/eH6Eu_fs Leach Rhodes Walker Architects | BAKER HOLLINGWORTH ASSOCIATES LIMITED | Turner & Townsend | Blackpool Coastal Housing #construction #community #employment #education
