Figures show a decrease in reported thefts in September, following collaborative work from the council’s Community Safety team.📱 Local Metropolitan police officers noted the number of phone thefts decreased after the council launched a theft and robbery prevention campaign over the summer which included commissioning an animation video sharing safety tips, installing temporary stencils on the pavement around town centres, and hosting community engagement events. The police particularly noted that raising awareness and providing theft prevention measures to staff and students at Greenwich University had a positive impact in areas of concern. The start of the new school term in September historically leads to an increase in theft and robberies, however the number of phone thefts were down to 24 in September, compared to 36 in the month before. Did you know that privately rented property landlords need to have the correct licence? Otherwise they could face up to a £30,000 fine. All rented properties in Royal Greenwich that are let out to three or more people from two or more households, require an Additional Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) Licence. If a property is let out to five or more people from two or more households, it will need a Mandatory HMO Licence. If a property is rented out to one household, it will need Selective Licence if it is in the following wards: Woolwich Riverside, Woolwich Common, Shooters Hill, Plumstead Common or Plumstead Glyndon. To find out more about the different licences and to apply visit https://lnkd.in/ei-dYbXh

Today we've published London's Homelessness Emergency - a new report setting out our latest data, analysis, and policy priorities for tackling #homelessness. The situation in London is worsening dramatically. Key findings include: ◾ 183,000 Londoners are estimated to be homeless and living in temporary accommodation arranged by their local borough. This is the highest-ever level of recorded homelessness in the capital – equivalent to at least one in 50 Londoners. ◾ The number of Londoners in temporary accommodation includes almost 90,000 children. We estimate this is equivalent to one out of every 21 children living in the capital – or on average at least one homeless child in every London classroom. ◾ London boroughs collectively spent £114m every month on average – or £4m daily – on temporary accommodation for homeless Londoners in the 2023-24 financial year. ◾ Boroughs’ spending on temporary accommodation jumped by a dramatic 68% in just one year (comparing 2022-23 to 2023-24). The impact on Londoners and pressures on local services are utterly unsustainable. Ahead of #Budget2024, we are calling for renewed action at a national policy level to support local services and reduce homelessness as quickly as possible.
