#Izmit, Türkiye is prone to seismic hazards due to the adjacent North Anatolian fault (NAF). However, another hazard to infrastructure is land #subsidence around the Gulf of Izmit. We assessed a section of the #railway corridor on SatShop using our recently processed #InSAR data over the region and noticed a non-linear ground behaviour, with subsidence rates ranging from 6 mm to 99 mm per year. This variation underscores the urgent need for continuous monitoring in critical areas where subsidence can severely impact infrastructure stability. SatSense's InSAR data is ideal for monitoring subsidence in urban centres built on #seismically active zones like #Izmit. Unsustainable #groundwater extraction can lead to widespread subsidence. Our recently processed InSAR data for #Konya and #Izmit regions of #Türkiye enables us to clearly observe the subsidence caused by groundwater extraction in the Konya region. We analysed a railway line for historical movement trends from 2015 to 2024. As you travel along the railway line away from #Selçuklu YHT, the subsidence increases from 50 mm/year to 180 mm/year over a short distance. Given this significant variation in #subsidence, it is crucial to monitor the central areas where substantial strain is exerted on the #railway infrastructure. SatSense #InSAR technology is ideal for monitoring subsidence patterns in urban centres experiencing severe water shortages due to rapid #urbanisation and #climatechange, like #Konya. #Airports are often built on reclaimed or repurposed land, which can be susceptible to #groundmovements. These ground movements can, over time, lead to localised #cracking of #tarmac/concrete and uneven surfaces. We present case studies from #Auckland's Ardmore airport, #Bengaluru's Kempegowda airport and Kathmandu's #Tribhuvan airport facing challenges related to ground movement.
