Proud to stand with every child.

About us

Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In more than 100 countries including the UK, we help children stay safe, healthy and keep learning. We lead the way on tackling big problems like pneumonia, hunger and protecting children in war, while making sure each child’s unique needs are cared for. We find new ways to reach children who need us most, no matter where they’re growing up. For a century, we’ve stood up for children and made sure their voices are heard. We wrote the treaty that sets out the rights of every child, and we’ve been upholding them every day since. We know we can’t do this alone. Together with children, supporters and partners, we work to help every child become who they want to be.

  • How to support children displaced by the 2023 earthquake in Turkey? Build a Dream Van 💛💭🌈 Our van has been delivering vital psychosocial support to children in hard-to-reach areas. It's a safe space where children can receive counselling from a psychologist – as well as play games, dance, sing, paint, watch theatre shows and other activities that increase social connections and promote emotional expression. And, importantly, they provide children with a sense of normalcy. It's been two years since the earthquake hit, killing 50,000 people in Turkey alone and displacing 2.7 million. We're proud of the joy our dream van brings to children who have endured so much in the past two years. ❤️

  • UK announces £55M for #Ukraine—including £25M for children & families. After almost 3 years of war, 2M children need urgent assistance & 65%+ are living in poverty. UK Gov must also release the £2.3+ billion Chelsea FC fund which remains locked in a UK bank account.

  • Every child deserves access to education, no matter where they're from. Education is vital for children's wellbeing, sense of normality and development. Until there’s a definitive ceasefire in Gaza, schools cannot be rebuilt, and families will not feel safe to send their school age children to return to the classroom. That’s why we’re setting up learning and recreational spaces in shelters to provide children with a sense of stability. Our staff will gradually introduce learning activities once children feel more comfortable and safer, so they can begin to express themselves again. You can give the gift of education to a child in an emergency by donating £12 to provide them with a school bag containing everything they need to keep on learning: https://bit.ly/3WMM286

Working for a more just, sustainable world

What an energising experience last Friday wandering around the brilliant Save the Children bookshop in Woodstock and chatting with passionate volunteers Lindsey, Sarah, Vivian and Helen. Loved getting to meet more Save UK volunteers at a civic reception hosted in the town by Mayor Elizabeth Poskitt, including Pauline Evans and Sue James who have dedicated decades of their lives to the cause of improving prospects for children in the UK and all around the world. Sue began her volunteering when she was herself a child, at the age of 14! Hugely inspiring to hear their stories and witness the dedication and passion of our volunteers! #SaveTheChildren #FundraisingHeroes #CommunityImpact #Volunteering #MakingADifference

  • The market attack came just four days after an attack on Abu Shouk camp on the outskirts of El Fasher killed at least seven people and injured 11 more. On 25 January, an attack on the El Fasher Saudi Teaching Hospital in North Darfur killed about 70 people and injured many others. These are the latest incidents in nearly two years of war. Sudan now faces the world’s largest displacement crisis, with 14 million people forced to flee their home seeking safety. We're calling on the international community, and especially the UK government, to push for a ceasefire and to support a locally-led, comprehensive peace process as the only way to end the fighting.

  • Today, we joined cook and author Meera Sodha, Eleanor Crook Foundation, and Action Against Hunger UK to hand in a letter signed by 15 renowned chefs to 10 Downing Street, calling for the UK Government to take action at the Nutrition for Growth summit 2025. Taking place in Paris next month, the summit stands as a key moment for governments to make commitments that can turn the tide on the global malnutrition crisis, and we need the UK to play its part. Together, we’re asking the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for three key actions: invest £500 million in high-impact solutions, help build global momentum and promote accountability for tackling malnutrition. • We are deeply concerned about the number of children living in low-income families whose housing support from the UK Government no longer covers their rent. Over 530,000 households with children won't be able to cover rent with housing support by March 2026, impacting at least 900,000 children, a new report by IPPR has found. The UK Government must: - Unfreeze Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates in April so they cover the real costs of rents. - Ensure rates match the median average of local rents. - 'Lock' rates so they rise by inflation or average earnings every year, whichever of the two figures is higher. 🚨 It's time to act – families can't wait. A busy day in Cardiff yesterday with the Save the Children Cymru team as they extended a warm Welsh ‘Croeso’ and shared insights on their work to address poverty facing 1 in 3 children in Wales. It was a privilege to meet and hear first-hand from children and young people, parents and partners as the team strives to build collective collaboration with communities who directly experience the impacts of poverty. A group of young people from the south Wales valleys shared insights they have pulled together as part of their Pŵer Y Llais (Power of Voice) research project. This is designed to amplify the voices of children and young people across Wales, particularly those living in communities with higher levels of poverty. They also took the opportunity to grill me on my priorities for Save the Children UK - hopefully I passed! Lunch was spent talking to parents from the ‘Voices For Bettws’ group who are all about fostering positive change for all children in their community. I then visited the Dan Y Coed (Under the Trees) community garden developed as part of Save the Children’s Ehangu (Expand) project. I also had the opportunity to hear about wider partnership work with representatives from Cardiff and Neath Port Talbot who are working with our colleagues on an exciting Welsh Government funded project. Really looking forward to seeing how these initiatives develop and create impact to address the needs of children and their families in Wales. Diolch yn fawr!

  • Ali* has loved planting trees and taking care of them ever since he can remember. 🌳 He hoped to study and become an agricultural engineer, but the war in Syria meant he and his family were forced to flee their home and move to a displacement camp. Education is essential for protecting children during and after a crisis – an escape from the horrors of the present and hope for the future. To make sure he didn't miss out on his education, Ali joined one of our temporary learning spaces. He hopes school always continues, so he can still learn with his friends and play together. ❤️ *Name changed #StopTheWarOnChildren
