About us
Scottish Business UK (SBUK) is an independent, non-party voice for business leaders who want to see Scotland thrive economically as part of the United Kingdom. It seeks to make a positive case for that future and believes strongly that the campaign to break up the UK offers unacceptable disruption for business and public services, especially as Scotland tries to rebound from the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic. As an organisation representing business leaders across a wide range of sectors and geographical areas in Scotland, SBUK is sending a clear signal to the Scottish Government that we do not welcome the additional uncertainty created by the continued threat of a second referendum on breaking up the United Kingdom. If a further referendum is announced, SBUK stands ready to garner the support of company leaders to secure the best interests of business across Scotland. SBUK was founded by serial entrepreneur Robert Kilgour, has a diverse Advisory Council of leading names from the business community across Scotland and an expanding business and industry support.

"17 years of SNP incompetence resulted in a comprehensive public rejection of Scottish nationalism at this July’s general election, with the party being reduced from 49 MPs at Westminster to a paltry nine. Their spectacular demise mirrors what would have happened to Scotland had the Yes vote won in 2014. Scotland would have certainly been confronted with tougher economic conditions, heightened public austerity, slower growth and increased borrowing." - Struan Stevenson ✍️ The Times https://ow.ly/llpy50TlJkC

A survey of Scottish hospitality businesses has revealed that despite the uplift from Euro 2024, 62% reported that trading is down versus the same time last year. Colin Wilkinson, SLTA managing director, said: “In our January 2024 survey, we highlighted that 96% of our respondents agreed with the statement 'the Scottish Government is out of touch with the business community’. “With recent changes at Westminster, we call on the Scottish and UK governments to work to support one of our key industries. “The most effective way to achieve this is by reducing VAT in the licensed hospitality sector and an urgent review on the commercial rating system.” ➡️ https://ow.ly/jMEF50T8rli
