On Social Work Day, Sefton Council is proud to celebrate its social workers across Children’s and Adults Services who make a difference to the lives of individuals and families across the borough. To mark Social Work Day, professionals in the social work sector have spent the day at a marketplace event, building relationships with each other across different agencies, learning more about the support on offer to families and vulnerable people in Sefton and how they can work better together. Leaders in social care in Sefton have thanked all social workers across the borough for the support and commitment they provide for people in Sefton Dr. Risthardh Hare, Director for Children’s Services said: “Social Work Day for me is not just about celebrating the social workers who do incredible work but in fact celebrating all those who play a part in a family’s journey. “From teachers, SEND caseworkers, early help workers, mental health support workers, psychologists, early years practitioners to volunteers, community workers, youth justice workers and social workers: it’s about celebrating how we as a system come together to support families. Deborah Butcher, Place Director for Sefton Integrated Care Board said: “Social Work Day is a chance for us all to reflect on the impact of our work in Adult Social Care with individuals and their families. It is a chance to celebrate the compassion, understanding and support our social workers offer to people in Sefton. “I am so pleased to see practitioners in the sector using today to strengthen their relationships across organisations and learning about the support we all offer to those who need it. Social Work Day in Sefton is a day for us learn about each other and to work better together.”

  • Earlier this week Louise and Katie from the Early Years team delivered a session for the Early Years students at Hugh Baird college about the project 'Lifelong Learners'⭐ This project considers the needs of young children and their families in today’s world and how we can nurture and inspire lifelong learners who are ‘Ready to Learn’ and thrive when they start school🍎🌱 The four puppets that support the project were a big hit: 💁♀️ Independent Isla, 💪 Resilient Robert, 🤔 Learning Luke, and 💭 Communicating Catherine. The students are now looking forward to seeing the puppets ‘in action’ during their placements with a clear understanding of their purpose and impact on young children across the borough✨

  • Today is World Social Work Day. 🤝 Like everyday we want to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions social workers have made around the world. 🌎 We know working as a Social Worker can be a challenging job. But Sharon, Kate and Lorraine, who all work in Adult Social Care at Sefton, have shared their own advice or feedback - to help others tackle the challenges! Lorraine said 💬 : "We should always remind ourselves of the valuable skill sets that we each have within our roles. Sometimes when we do things on a day to day basis they become “the norm” and it becomes easy to forget the difference that we make." Kate said 💬 : "One valuable piece of feedback I received from another professional recently is that, it’s not an easy job we do, and we don’t get to win them all, but if you change one person’s life, you’ll have achieved more than most people ever will." Sharon said 💬 : "Now, I know there are many challenging days as a Social Worker but I have learnt that there will be plenty of good days that follow the bad ones." This is great advice to remember, thank you for the amazing work you do.  #WSWD #CelebrateTogether #StrengtheningSolidarity

What an inspiring end to the programme from Novel ✨ In fact the words from CEO Phil Porter of Sefton Council on the opening night suggested that having different people, in different rooms, having different conversations is what often leads to innovation. This is exactly how it played out! From the first session attended by our CEO Jayne Moore to our MD Andrew Colwell attending the last session, it's fair to say that these words truly encapsulate what the Novel Programme is all about. Big thanks to Jon Corner and Dr Jim Mooney of VEC (Virtual Engineering Centre) at University of Liverpool for bringing everybody together for what was an excellent learning and discovery programme. #NovelLCR #Innovation

"Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity not a threat" - Steve Jobs. I closed off last week at a residential conference courtesy of the VEC (Virtual Engineering Centre) from the University of Liverpool. The "Novel Program" is firmly based on the power of #innovation and what it can achieve. This residential was the the third of three in the series - I could spend a long time talking about just how Jon Corner and Dr Jim Mooney delivered an outstanding program, but I'll focus on my top three takeaways: 1️⃣ Innovation is a must for all businesses and organisations 2️⃣ Artificial Intelligence presents us all with the most phenomenal opportunities to get better at what we do, how we deliver it and the value we provide 3️⃣ The assembled audience of business leaders were passionate to undertake number 1, and have a real thirst to understand and embrace number 2 We heard from local authority chief executives, NHS care trust leaders, university professors and leading lights of the #AI scene in the private sector. Massive appreciation and respect to you all. Phil Porter | Dr Jennifer Davies | Nicola Wilson | Dan W. Joyce | Sunil Mistry | Ben McLoughlin | Stephen Young Superb event and programme. Already looking forward to the next one. #NovelLCR #Innovation #Leadership #Opportunity #Growth #Collaboration
