  • 🚂Earlestown Rail Station is the oldest railway station still in operation in the world and with the upcoming regeneration to the wider town and with help from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, we can further enhance the station with accessibility improvements that will unlock the historic stations full potential in time for the 200th anniversary of the Liverpool to Manchester line in 2030. Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram recently visited Earlestown - along with Council Leader Cllr Anthony Burns, Cabinet Member for Transport & Environment Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron MBE and other partners to discuss the investment coming to our borough through Levelling Up Funding. Here's what they said👇

  • It was great to have Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram visit St Helens borough last week. As well as visiting St Helens College alongside Council Leader Cllr Anthony Burns, Steve also visited Earlestown Railway Station - the oldest railway station still in operation in the world - to see first hand the investment coming to our borough through Levelling Up Funding (read more: https://lnkd.in/e_XrVTGf). Another stop on the St Helens borough tour was the historic No.7 bottle shop, where Steve was able to see how its regeneration will restore the site as a hub for community, education, training and events.

  • 🛤️ Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram visited Earlestown Railway Station - the oldest railway station still in operation in the world - recently to see first hand the investment coming to our borough through Levelling Up Funding that will bring regeneration and improvements to the station in time for the 200 year anniversary of the Liverpool to Manchester line 🚂 Alongside these improvements to the station and the wider Earlestown area, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority can play a part in helping to further enhance the station with accessibility improvements that will unlock the historic station's full potential, alongside the need for accessibility improvements at Garswood Station, too. St Helens Borough Council Leader, Councillor Anthony Burns 💬 “It’s fantastic to welcome Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram to see the station and some of our projects that we’re delivering through the Levelling Up Fund to improve the area. We’ve got big, big plans for Earlestown and the station is centre part of that as well but it needs a lot of love and care. “The 'Accessibility For All' will make huge benefits for this and Steve is committed to make all stations across the City Region accessible for all by 2030. This is a big, big project for that so we look forward to seeing that in fruition. “It’s been great to show Steve around the world’s oldest railway station. We’re going to celebrate 200 years of this line in 2030 and it’s brilliant to have him here to show him some of our heritage; the old ticket office and plans to regenerate the station."
