Today we have published our 2024 half year results. As announced in June, our first half performance reflects a tough comparator and softer conditions in some of our end markets. Despite the market conditions, we have continued to actively deliver on our Strategy for Sustainable Growth – including the announcement of the acquisitions of SciAps and Micromeritics, successfully delivering our new ERP system in Malvern Panalytical and continuing to drive operational excellence through the deployment of the Spectris Business System. Our commitment to innovation and solving our customers most complex challenges means that 2024 will be a record year for new product launches across the Group – and we are proud to share some of the highlights from the launches to date, with further exciting developments to follow in H2. Last week, I had the pleasure of completing a design project at Servomex under the guidance and supervision of Claus Agersbaek and Tom Britton, as part of my work experience! I want to thank them both for providing me with an insightful and challenging week, where I learnt many skills that will no doubt help me in the future! The main focus of the week was on completing the engineering project proposed, however I was immersed into the project management and research and development areas within the company, after having conversations with numerous staff within these fields. Overall a very well-rounded experience! Here's a little insight into the week: Monday ✅: Introduction to the company and their various technologies, explanation of Ingress Protection (IP) testing and its use within the engineering industry, as well as being briefed on the general approach towards the design process when approaching a problem. Tuesday - Thursday ✅: Immersed into a design project, innovating and evaluating parts of Servomex's sensing technology (using SOLIDWORKS) under mentorship of senior staff. Use of scientific principles, equations and calculations to drive and shape the overall project. Friday ✅: Design project completion, write-up of and analysis of overall findings and presentation of the design to mentors. I would like to thank Corinne Stevens, Claus Agersbaek, Tom Britton, Martin Lopez, and Cristina Mills, for all making my experience one to remember! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Servomex, and learnt valuable skills that I will use in industry and in the foreseeable future!
