Mission Complete: Precision and Safety Delivered We are proud to have completed a critical operation for a valued client working on the construction of a new science block at a comprehensive school in Bristol. The site presented a unique challenge: a dual 1400m culverted watercourse running directly through it. To ensure smooth site operations and effective traffic management, our client required the exact location of the culverts. Here’s how we made it happen: • Access and Safety First: Temporary steps were installed on the bank for safe access and egress. Our civil team, equipped with life jackets, safety ropes, and harnesses, carefully removed the large trash screens on the outfall pipes. • Optimized Equipment Setup: A small access track was created to bring the remote jetting reel close to the outfall. • Precise Inspection: Jetting and CCTV operations were carried out, identifying the culverts’ location step by step. • Accurate Mapping: The final phase involved creating a detailed CAD drawing, providing our client with the exact culvert locations. With this comprehensive approach, construction is now set to proceed smoothly in the new year. 🌟 Tank Investigation & Repair – A Successful Project with Impressive Results I’m thrilled to share the successful completion of a tank investigation and repair project for a new client. The project, completed over two days (18/12/2024 & 19/12/2024), involved a series of critical tasks to address the client’s needs. The work included bunging off two manholes, sucking down and cleaning the tank, and removing all liquid and sludge. Our team then performed a man entry to investigate and confirm the damage to the tank, enabling us to supply a solution that not only addressed the issue but saved the client an impressive £250k in potential costs! The onsite teamwork was exceptional, and I want to extend a special thank you to Andy Furlong, Ian Osbourne, George Cannings, Lewis Furlong, and Greg Duddridge for their dedication and hard work throughout the project. This was a fantastic project with an even better result, and it was rewarding to receive a positive email from the client, thanking us for both our hard work and the significant cost savings we achieved. ✈️ Solum Surveying Goes International: Topo and PAS128 Utility Surveys in Cyprus 🌍 This past month, Solum Surveying took on an exciting challenge: delivering our Topographical and PAS128 utility surveys across six sites in beautiful Southern Cyprus, our fist time surveying abroad! 📦 Packing Up: Taking our specialist survey kit abroad was no small feat. From flights to logistics, this project demanded meticulous planning and teamwork. 🏠 Adaptability Under Pressure: Early in the trip, our villa was broken into, forcing us to relocate due to security issues. Despite the setback, the team showcased incredible resilience and flexibility, adjusting seamlessly and continuing their work without missing a beat. 📅 A Race Against Time: Over six intense days, our dedicated team tackled all six sites, working tirelessly to capture and process the data. The villa dining table and garden became our office space, where we refined and delivered the final CAD drawings. Impressively, we submitted the deliverables three days ahead of schedule, giving our client time to review everything before our return. ✨ Mission Accomplished: The project was a success, and we couldn’t be prouder of our team’s hard work, adaptability, and commitment. A huge thank you to everyone involved for making this international venture not just possible, but an absolute triumph. Lots of learning taken and improvements to be made for next time.
