The G20 & G7 Health & Development Partnership (G20HDP) is an advocacy organisation that aims to ensure that G20 countries coordinate their health innovation strategies to tackle the growing burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases globally, to promote the delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on SDG 3 “health and well-being for all”. The G20HDP emerged as an informal coalition of like-minded organisations during the G20 Presidency in Germany in 2017, building on the objectives of SDG 17, “strengthening partnerships”. Our 22 partner organisations from across different sectors include product development. The G20HDP, run by over 25 global health partners and Sovereign Sustainability and Development (SSD), was created as a response to the growing need to embed people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships into all facets of organizational strategy. Developing multi-sector partnerships, sharing knowledge, harnessing technology, and developing a strong commitment to cooperation – all enshrined in SDG 17 – present a multitude of challenges and opportunities that requires multi-dimensional expertise in addition to political acumen. SSD’s consultancy hub and broader knowledge platform of collaborators are able to bring focus and clarity to a complex organizational terrain. SSD was created in late 2017 to act as the convener and secretariat of the G20 Health and Development Partnership. Following consultation with a number of key stakeholders and confirmation from the Government of Argentina that health would remain a focus of the G20 under its Presidency in 2018, Sovereign Strategy - the organization that had provided secretarial pro-bono support to the Partnership in 2017 - created a related entity to provide comprehensive management of the Partnership during its consequential phase and to reflect the increasing focus of its mandate and expertise in the sustainable development field.

⌛ It has been two weeks since our high-level roundtable "Accelerating the Elimination of Cervical Cancer as a Public Health Problem - Achieving Consensus on Policy Actions for the G7 Health", with the support of partners MSD and BD, on the side-lines of the 79th UN General Assembly. 🕰 Ahead of the G7 Health Ministers meeting on the 10-11th October in Ancona, we are reflecting on some of the key themes highlighted in the discussion and sharing our recommendation to G7 Health Ministers ⬇ 🗣 Key points reiterated throughout the roundtable were the need for widespread vaccination programs, early diagnosis, and prompt follow-ups. To tackle non-communicable diseases such as HPV and cervical cancer, a One Health approach, with collaboration from academia, civil society, multilateral development banks, the private sector, and various other sectors, is required. 🤔 We have collated the key points discussed and recommendations for the G7 health ministers ahead of the Health Ministerial in October to create a Call-to-Action with the request to “include a clear reference to preventing HPV-related cancers for both women and men within the 2024 G7 Ministers of Health Communique, starting with the elimination of cervical cancer in alignment with the WHO 90-70-90 strategy.” To view the full Call-to-Action, please take a look at the below 🔽 G20G7HDP-Cervical-Cancer-Elimination-roundtable-0410_final-.pdf (g20healthpartnership.com) MSD BD Hatice Küçük Beton Alan Donnelly

The World Health Organization has declared the Mpox outbreak in a growing number of countries in Africa as a public health emergency of International concern, with the potential to spread further across and possibly outside the continent. Dr Ayoade Alakija the chair of Africa Vaccine Delivery Alliance and of the diagnostics non-profit organisation FIND, said if the outbreak was in Europe, mpox would have already been considered a major international health emergency. The declaration, she said, “should focus minds and loosen purse strings so that the response recovers from a sluggish start”. “There is an urgent need for a more in-depth investigation to better understand mpox transmission dynamics to guide controls and response plans, as well as enhanced surveillance and equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments for all affected populations. Most vaccines and treatments have been pre-ordered by rich countries and as yet only one diagnostic test exists,” said Alakija.
